21STCENTURY ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

National studies validate the value of an extended school day. In today’s economy however, it is rare that a school system can offer FREEQualityafter school enrichment with transportation. The Triton Middle & High Schools were very fortunate to have been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant giving its students the opportunity to extend their day and explore a wide array of interests. Triton High School

Viking Café: Are you interested in learning about becoming a manager, a marketeror a bakery chef? Would you like to own and operate your very own business- be your own boss? Then this is the choice for you! Students learn from hands on experience valuable management and work skills. The well patronized Viking Café , with its very own lobby kiosk, services a large population of after school staff and student customers. Program meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year. Students may elect to sigh up for one or both days. Oh yah, you work in your own Viking Café kitchen & you get to sample what you bake too!

Starts Oct. 19th and is open to 7, 8, 9, and 10th graders.

Community Service with Mrs. Douglas: This selection offers you the opportunity tomake a difference in the lives of many others!Students participate in school and community-based service projects. Student make decisions as a team and participants develop self-confidence by seeing themselves as resourceful and knowledgeable agents of change in their community. Program meets Wednesdays throughout the year. Field trips are a plannedpart of this experience.

Starts Oct. 6th and is open to 7, 8, 9, and 10th graders.

Green Team: Student run school wide recycling program. The Green Team program provides an interactive way for students to learn the value of recycling. Become involved, reduce your carbon footprint and join Ms. Ribaudo-Smith as “ Green Leaders” in your school. Program meets Wednesdays throughout the year and field trips are planned.

Starts Sept. 15th and is open to 7, 8, 9, and 10th graders.

Fitness & Aerobics: This isa unique fitness program. Student participates in an aerobic workout and team sports.Get in shape, stay in shape & have fun all at the same time! Program meets Mondays.

Starts Jan. 10, 2011 and is open to 7, 8, 9, and 10 graders.

Design & Sew: This enrichment selection offers students an opportunity to design and sew creations of their own.Students will have the unique experience of designing and creating theatrical costumes as they learn the art of becoming costumers for the musical production, Frog & Toad! Program meets Tuesdays throughout the year.

Starts Oct. 19th and is open to 7, 8, 9, and 10th graders.

Musical Theatre: Students produce and perform a Broadway musical. This year’s production is Frog & Todd. Arnold Lobel’s well loved characters hop from the page to the stage. Meets Thursdays throughout the school year with additional rehearsal hours scheduled the week of the performances. Auditions will be held in the high school auditorium, Oct 21st from 2:30 to 4:00 for all interested students. AND if your interest in not in the front of the stage,we need set designers, lighting designers, back stage staff, etc.

Green Thumb Nursery: Students owned and operated their very green house nursery. Outfitted with a greenhouse build just of this program, students will plant, nurture and market their seasonal vegetables and flowers. Program is seasonal (fall & spring). The fall season is scheduled to start September 14thand will run through December.

Starts September 14th and is open to 7, 8, 9, and 10th graders.

Boys & Girls Club of Salisbury: Students are welcome to join the TeenCenter at the Boys and Girls Club of Salisbury. Students take the after school bus to the Boys and Girls Club for a variety of chaperoned activities. Parents are responsible for their child’s transportation home from the Boys & Girls Club.

High School ProgramOnly

Fitness Factory: Is a fitness center with an emphasis on cardiovascular and strength training. Triton’s fitness instructor(s) will assist students in designing individual nutritional and workout programs. Students will also have the opportunity to explore health and fitness as a career. Program meets Monday through Thursdays. Students may elect to sigh up for as many days as they wish. Depending on interest, there will be evening hours offered as well. This is not a drop-in program! Students must register for program.

Starts Sept. 20th and is open to 9 and 10 graders.

Creative Woodworking: Students will operate a manufacturing woodworking factory. This entrepreneurship program takes students step-by step through the entire process of owning their own woodworking business.They will design and create an Adirondack chair for themselves as their first project. Students will manufacture, market and sell their crafted furniture either completed or in kit form. Program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays with Mr. Galante.

Starts October 19th and is open to 9 and 10 graders.

Media: This course introduces students to video camera technique, non-linear editing (using Final Cut Pro), and studio production techniques including audio, lighting, and green screen. Students will work in groups to create a variety of small projects that include, but are not limited to: movie shorts, stop motion animations, event recaps, video scrapbooks, public service announcements, youth voice pieces and music video. Program meets with Mr. Lathrop on Mondays throughout the year.

Starts October 18th, and isOPEN TO 9TH GRADERS ONLY.

Theater Festival: Students will write, direct, perform and produce an original One-Act play. This component will culminate with a Theater Festival. Area schools will be invited to participate and showcase their original productions. Please see Mrs. Riordan, Triton’s performing arts teacher for more info.

Study Skills: This program will help students be better prepared for the demands of their high school course loads. Participating students will become more organized for homework, class discussion and test taking. Basic and advanced study skills will be taught. Program will meets Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the year.

Starts Oct. 18th, and is open to 9 and 10th graders.

Internships for Students: Students interested an internship experience where they will learn hands-on in a variety of fields like manufacturing, animal care, child care and wildlife preservation will have the opportunity to intern with area organizations and business. Program curriculum is in the process of development but interested students are encouraged to contact Mrs. Causer ASAPat . This program will begin in January.

Viking Corner Store: Join the world of retail by becoming part of the Viking Corner Store team. Students visit wholesale merchants, choose items to sell, and learn hands-on what it takes to run a boutique. Come and join us just in time for the holiday season!

Program starts November 8th and runs on Wednesdays throughout the year.
