THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE

“ERASMUS PHOTO CONTEST 2012”

Article 1. Aims of the contest and its organisation

1.1.  The “Erasmus Photo Contest 2012”, hereinafter referred to as the Contest is organised by the Erasmus Programme Office of the University of Silesia in Katowice, seated in Katowice at Bankowa 12, hereinafter referred to as the Organiser.

1.2.  The Contest is organised in connection with the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Lifelong Learning Programme /Erasmus and the planned celebration of the Erasmus Day.

1.3.  The aim of the Contest is to promote the Erasmus programme among the students of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

1.4.  The Contest is open for the students of the University of Silesia who participated in studies or professional training under the Erasmus programme and the students of partner universities, who came to the University of Silesia to study or do professional training.

1.5.  The Contest takes place between 14th April and 17th May 2012.

1.6.  Photographs for the Contest can be sent between 14th April and 10th May 2012.

1.7.  The results of the Contest will be announced on the www.erasmus.us.edu.pl website by 21st May 2012.

1.8.  The Rules and Regulations of the Contest and other documents connected with the Contest are available in two language versions: Polish and English. Both language versions are equivalent.

1.9.  The participants of the Contest who are not Polish nationals may use the documents made in the English language.

Article 2. Contest categories

2.1. The Contest is divided into two categories:

a) ‘My Erasmus in Poland’ – photographs presenting Poland as seen through the eyes of the students who came to study or to do a professional training at the University of Silesia under the Erasmus programme,

b) ‘My Erasmus in Europe’ – photographs presenting Europe as seen through the eyes of Polish students who went to study or do a professional training in foreign partner institutions under the Erasmus programme.

Article 3. Sending the photographs

3.1. The photographs for the Contest should be sent electronically by sending them to the following email address: between 14th April and 10th May inclusive.
The photographs sent after the deadline shall not be admitted to the Contest.

3.2. The requirements for the photographs sent for the Contest are as follows:

- the photographs should be submitted as files of highest possible quality and resolution. They will be printed in the B1 format,

- the permitted formats of photographs: JPG and TIFF,

- the maximum photograph size is 5 MB.


3.3. Each participant can send in up to three photographs, taken personally, in only one of the categories specified in article 2.1.


3.4. The organiser reserves the right to remove a photograph from the Contest if:


a) a photograph contains content which does not comply with common moral values, has
a connection with fascism, racism or violates the good or dignity of third parties,


b) a deception is attempted when sending in a photograph or another violation of the Rules and Regulations or other requirements for participants takes place.

Article 4. The structure of the Contest

4.1. The Contest shall have two stages.

4.2. In the first stage, the photographs sent in by the Contest participants shall be judged by the Contest Jury, who will select 20 best photographs, 10 in each of the categories specified in article 2.1.

4.3. In the second stage, the selected photographs shall be exhibited during the celebrations of the Erasmus Day on 17th May 2012 on the grounds in front of the Rectorate of the University of Silesia. The photographs shall be described with the author’s name and surname, the name of the unit of the University of Silesia and the partner institution’s under the Erasmus programme.

4.4. The winners of the Contest will be selected by holding a vote. The winner shall be decided by the number of votes cast for the individual photographs by students taking part in the Erasmus Day celebrations on 17th May 2012.

Article 5. The Contest Jury

5.1. The Contest Jury shall be presided by the Vice-Rector of the University of Silesia for Student Affairs, Promotion and International Cooperation, professor Barbara Kożusznik.

5.2. The President of the Jury appoints the other members of the Jury panel.

5.3. The Contest Jury chooses the photographs which will be exhibited during the Erasmus Day celebrations on 17th May 2012.

Article 6. Prizes

6.1. The following Prizes shall be granted in the Contest:

6.1.1. For the first place in each of the categories specified in article 2.1. - a shopping voucher of 500 PLN

6.1.2. For the second place in each of the categories specified in article 2.1. – a shopping voucher of 350 PLN

6.1.3. For the third place in each of the categories specified in article 2.1. – a shopping voucher of 200 PLN

Article 7. Copyright declaration

7.1. Sending in photographs for the Contest is equivalent to it’s author’s declaration that the artwork does not infringe on the copyright of third parties and his or her acceptance of these Rules and Regulations.

7.2. Sending in the photographs for the Contest is equivalent with the author’s granting the University of Silesia in Katowice a free-of-charge licence to use the photographs and to make them available to other organisations in order to promote the Contest, the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Erasmus programme, with the stating of the author’s name without the necessity to obtain his or her written consent on each occasion.

7.3. The authors of the photographs which shall be qualified for the second stage of the Contest shall be exhibited during the Erasmus Day celebrations on 17th May 2012 shall be obliged to submit a written Consent to use the photographs, which is Annex 1 to these Rules and Regulations.

Article 8. Final provisions

8.1. The organiser has the right to change the Rules and Regulations or to cancel the Contest at any time by announcing such decision on the www.erasmus.us.edu.pl. website.
