Sustainable Investment Specialist

The General Board is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join the Sustainable Investment Strategies team at Wespath Investment Management, a division of the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits. Wespath manages $22b in assets and is committed to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decision-making to bring long-term benefits to participants and clients.

The Sustainable Investment Specialist contributes to the success of Wespath Investment Managementvia responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Integrating ESG issues into the Wespath investment process by working closely with Sustainable Investment Strategies colleagues to:
  • Network with peers in sustainable investment industry and sell-side analysts to gather and share information regarding ESG performance of global companies, with a particular focus on corporate governance
  • Collaborate on the selection and evaluation of external investment managers based on their capacity and expertise in ESG integration
  • Evaluate, interpret, and report on relevant breaking news stories across global financial markets
  • Contributing to Sustainable Investment Strategies team’s comprehensive integration of ESG engagement into investment process
  • Leading Wespath’s corporate governance engagement activities with companies, external investment managers and peers
  • Researching and maintaining up-to-date knowledge on global corporate governance policies and trends
  • Coordinating Wespath’s proxy voting activities – with external proxy voting and analysis service, Sustainable Investment Strategies and Investment Management colleagues – to ensure timely and accurate vote submissions in line with Wespath policies
  • Reviewing and improving Wespath’s proxy voting guidelines, as required, to demonstrate market leadership
  • Filing and supporting shareholder resolutions, as appropriate, based on thorough ESG and company performance analysis
  • Managing relationships with external proxy voting and analysis service provider

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, accounting or equivalent financial services experience
  • 3 years’ investment or relevant business-related experience, including a focus on ESG issues in investment
  • Experience in global proxy voting activities and engaging with companies on ESG issues
  • Strong understanding of the investment management industry, including knowledge of equities, fixed income and alternatives
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network of peers within sustainable investment industry, including major industry partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Financial qualifications including MBA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
