Indiana Universal Student Standards for Guidance
The Indiana Student Standards for Guidance represent the knowledge and skills that K-12 students need to master in the areas of academic, career, and citizenship development in order to be successful students, responsible citizens, and productive members of a global economy. The Indiana Universal Student Standards for Guidance include those standards that the writers believed every Indiana student should master while in grades K-12. The standards were written by representatives of 32 state-level organizations interested in student guidance:

Drive of Your Life / Indiana Youth Institute / Drive of Your Life is a fun online career exploration game that helps middle-school students learn more about themselves, higher education and careers. Students answer a series of questions about themselves to learn what careers could interest them and then go on a virtual drive to learn more about each of those careers – all in their own customized car. / www.

Indiana Commission for Higher Education / The Student Success Mini-Magazine Series includes separate magazines for each grade level, K-12. Indiana State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana / The Indiana Career and Course Planner is a cardstock folder provided to all Indiana students in the 8th grade. Students use the planner to create the following, updating annually throughout high school.

High School Diploma Plan
High School Course Plan
Academic Improvement Plan
Extracurricular Activity Log / Distributed by middle school counselors to all 8th grade students. In most schools, the counselors store the planners after they are completed and then transfer the planners to the high school counselors as the students enter high school. Counselors also send the planners to students’ new schools when they transfer. / info@

Indiana State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana / Learn More Indiana conducts an annual survey with students in grades 9 and 11. This report helps high schools and communities measure the progress of local career and college counseling programs. / This paper survey is distributed to 9th and 11th grade students by their counselors. Guiding All Kids Indiana / Indiana Student Achievement Institute (InSAI) / InSAI provides all Indiana schools with a collection of online resources to help schools transform their school counseling programs through a series of seven School Counseling Advisory Council meetings.
