2006 Iowa AAU District Track & Field Championships

ELIGIBILITY: All youth athletes in Nebraska and Iowa are eligible to participate. Participants MUST compete in their appropriate age division.

QUALIFICATIONS: Athletes do not have to pre-qualify in order to participate in the 2006 AAU District Championships. However, all athletes do have to pre-register in order to participate.

MEMBERSHIP: A CURRENT (2006) AAU MEMBERSHUIP NUMBER IS NECESSARY TO REGISTER. AAU memberships can be obtained online at www.aausports.org. If you already have a 2006 AAU membership card from another AAU sport, you do not need to purchase another card.

HOW TO ENTER: REGISTRATION WILL BE ONLINE ONLY at www.coacho.com. Click on the “On-line Meet Entry” tab on the left side of the page. Then click on the “Enter” box on the next page. Go down to the list of meets in July. Click on the “AAU District Track & Field Championships” link. This will take you to the Main Menu for registering for this meet. Click on “Help” box for more detailed instructions on how to register. Additions and corrections can be made until the entry deadline listed below. NO CHANGES WILL B E ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE!

ENTRY DEADLINE: ALL athletes must register online no later than noon on Wednesday, May 31st, 2006. **ALL athletes must pre-register in order to participate in this meet.**

ENTRY FEE: $15.00 per athlete (make checks payable to: Iowa District AAU)

NOTE: Athletes and coaches must be registered members of their state’s AAU District, which is a $12.00 annual fee for athletes and $14.00 for coaches. (The AAU also offers an “added benefits” option. For an additional $2.00 per member, insurance coverage is extended to non-AAU sanctioned events. Call the Iowa AAU office at 515-255-4058 for more details.)

FEE PAYMENT: There are two options for payment this year:

1)  Entry fees can be paid online with a credit card at the end of the registration process;

2)  At the end of registration process you can print out the confirmation page(s) and then send a copy of the page showing the amount you owe along with your payment as directed. Mailed in fees must be received no later than Friday, June 2nd, 2006.

MEET CONDUCT: The AAU District Track & Field Championships will be conducted under the AAU code guidelines and follow competitive rules of the NGB as modified and outlines in the 2005 AAU youth Athletics Handbook (available at www.aauathletics.org.

AWARDS: First through fourth place finishers in each division and event will be awarded AAU medals. Fifth through eighth place finishers will receive ribbons.

ADVANCEMENT: The top six (6) finishers in each event and division qualify to advance directly to the Regional being held on Saturday July 1st and Sunday July 2nd.

NEW DIVISION: A new Sub- Youth age division has been added this year. The youth division was split into two (2) separate one-year age divisions.

AGE DIVISION: Primary: Born in 1998 & after

Sub- Bantam: Born in 1997

Bantam: Born in 1996

Sub-Midget: Born in 1995

Midget: Born in 1994

Sub-Youth: Born in 1993

Youth: Born in 1992

Intermediate: Born in 1990-1991

Young Men/ Women: Born in 1988-1989

*Exception: Athletes who are 18 years old through the final day (August 6th, 2006) of the National Track & Field Championships are eligible to compete in the Young Men/ Women divisions through that meet.

PROOF OF AGE: Proof of age does not need to be submitted with payment. However, each athlete should bring proof of age with them to the meet in case there is a question regarding age division in which they are competing. Acceptable forms of age verification include a copy of the following:

1.  Original birth certificate

2.  A notarized copy of birth record from the State, County, or Municipal Bureau of Statistics for the place of birth

3.  The delayed registration of birth, if the athlete’s birth was not recorded on their day of birth, issued by the same governmental bodies

4.  A Consular Service Form FS 240, “Report on Birth” issued by the U.S. Department of State

5.  An unexpired transport

6.  An immigration and naturalization form 1-151 and 1-25 and Form # 43R3117 issued by the U.S. Department of Justice

7.  (Foreign athletes) A certified copy of their birth certificate or passport

8.  A U.S. Governmental Identification Card

9.  An Indian Tribal Enrollment Certificate from the Bureau of Indian Affairs

10.  A valid driver’s license with picture

LETTER FROM PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND CITY/STATE PARKS & RECREATION OFFICERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. ALSO, HOSPITAL RECORDS ARE NOT ACCPETABLE.

EVENT LIMITS: Primary, Sub-Bantam, Bantam, Sub-Midget, and Midget: Maximum of 3 events

Sub-Youth, Youth, Intermediate, Young Men/Women: Maximum of 4 events

NOTE: Any athlete who participates in more than his/ her age division’s prescribed maximum number of events will be disqualified from this meet and will not be allowed to advance to the regional meet in any event.

UNIFORMS: There is no specific uniform required except as follows:

1.  All athletes must wear clothing that is clean and, in the opinion of the officials, in good taste. Jersey (tops) must be worn by all competitors.

2.  Shoes or foot coverings must be worn by all competitors.

3.  All members of relay teams must wear jersey (tops) and shorts of the same color.

RELAYS: Participation of relay teams will be limited to those clubs which hold a current (2006) valid club membership in the AAU. Club memberships can be applied for at www.aausports,org.

Relay teams consist of four (4) members and can list up to four (4) alternates. Please remember that each entry in a relay is considered one of each of these athlete’s individual entries.

EVENTS NOT

BEING HELD: Steeplechase, Pole Vault, and Multi-Events competition (decathlon, heptathlon, pentathlon, and triathlon) will not be held at the District Championships. However, there events will be contested at the 2006 AAU Junior Olympic Games. All athletes interested in competing in any of these events must still register for these events using the online registration process. Athletes who desire to compete in these events at the Regional Meet will need to pick up the appropriate registration packets at the awards tent.

TURBO-JAVELIN: The Turbo-Javelin (30g) will be contested at this meet in the Primary through Midget age divisions. Participants in this event will also receive medals and ribbons. However, this event WILL NOT be competed at the National Level. Registration for the Turbo-Javelin will count as one of the events towards the athlete’s maximum number allowed.

CONCESSIONS: Simpson College Booster Club will be opening the concession stand at the track.

TENTS & CANOPIES: Tents and canopies will be able to be set up in designated areas.

SOUVENIRS: The District AAU Track & Field Organization will have a souvenir tent.

COACHES MEETING: A coaches’ meeting will be held each morning at 8:45 am. The location for the meeting will be announced over the PA system.

ADMISSIONS: Athlete’s and Coaches: Free with proof of valid current (2006) AAU individual membership

Adults: $4.00

Students/ Senior Citizens: $2.00

5 & Under: Free

INCLEMENT

WEATHER: The Meet Director has the option of delaying or temporarily halting the meet in the event of bad weather and resuming it when weather permits. The format of the meet may be adjusted after a weather delay if deemed appropriate by the Meet Directors and the Games Committee.

MEET PROGRAM: Will be sold on track site.

TRAINER: A certified athletic trainer will be on site all day Saturday and Sunday during competition.

TRACK ACCESS: Except for an area near the clerking tent, the track will b e off limits to everyone except for credentialed meet officials and designated volunteers.

FIELD ACCESS: Northwest track entrance

TEAM CAMPS: On the North Side of the track between inside and outside fences. (near concessions)

SPIKES: Any shoes containing spikes must have 1/8” or 1/4” pyramid type spikes. Needle type spikes are prohibited. Athletes will not be allowed to compete with spikes that do not comply.

PROTESTS: During these meet protests concerning the eligibility of any competitor must be made in writing to the Games Committee before or during the meet. A $50 cash deposit must accompany the protest. If the protest is denied the cash deposit is forfeited.

Protests relating to matters which develop during the conduct of the meet must be made to the Referee in writing. Protests should be filed immediately, but in any case not more than 30 minutes after the results have been announced. A $50 cash deposit must accompany the protest. The Referee shall follow the 2006 AAU Athletics Handbook and the 2006 USATF Rulebook in rendering his decision. When the Referee renders his decision there is still the right to appeal to the Jury of Appeals. The decision of the Jury of Appeals is final. If the protest is denied the cash deposit if forfeited.
