MARCH 20, 2016 PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD
FROM FR. DAN’S DESK…
My friends, this coming week is HOLY WEEK - the most solemn, beautiful, and spiritual time in our Church Year. We are invited, beginning on this Palm Sunday, to enter into the mystery of Christ’s Passion and Death, so that we might celebrate His Resurrection at Easter! Please join us for the Liturgies of the Sacred Triduum beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday at 7:00PM. The Liturgy will conclude with a Procession of the Eucharist to the Repository in the Chapel, which this year will have a special theme celebrating God’s Mercy. The Chapel will be open for private prayer till midnight. Good Friday there will be Stations of the Cross at 3:00PM and then the Main Liturgy – The Passion of our Lord at 7:00PM. Holy Saturday we will celebrate the traditional Blessing of Food at 3:00PM, and the Easter Vigil at 8:00PM. Easter Sunday Masses are as usual at 7:00, 8:30 and 11:00AM.
Our LENTEN SPEAKER SERIES concludes this week in the church on Wednesday Evening at 7:00PM, when we will welcome Dr. Matthew Cabeen, Harvard Professor and Scientist. Matthew Cabeen was a college student who disavowed religion in the face of science and reason, but who eventually came to a deep and abiding Faith. Come and hear his story and the power of faith! Peggy Weber from “Real to Reel” will be our host again this week. We thank Catholic Communications for hosting our Parish Lenten Series. Be sure to watch “Chalice of Salvation” - our Diocesan Televised TV Mass on Sundays at 10:00AM, and “Real to Reel” - our weekly Televised Catholic News Show which airs on Saturdays at 7:00PM, both on Channel 22.
My friends, last week our Lenten Speaker - Deacon Greg Kandra - called us to a critical awareness of the persecution and killing of innocent Christians in the Middle East. Just 2 weeks ago, 4 of Mother Theresa’s Sisters – the Missionaries of Charity – were executed along with 12 seniors, in a nursing home in Yemen – a nursing home of senior citizens not unlike our own. Christians are being driven out of the holy places in Jerusalem, and those who stay, fear for their lives. Traditionally, a Good Friday Collection is taken up in churches around the world, to support the Holy Places in the Holy Land. This collection and the efforts to support our Holy Sites - where Jesus lived, suffered, died, and rose - is ever more critical. As a relatively new Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, I now am more passionate about the crisis in the Holy Land and our need to support our fellow Christians simply seeking to follow their faith. I hope you will be generous in the collection on Good Friday, at the Stations of the Cross at 3:00pm, and at the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 7:00pm. I am personally grateful for your support of this collection, along with the other members of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. May God bless you! Our Lady, Queen of Palestine, pray for us!
Next week I will re-cap our Lenten Series with a THANK YOU to many parishioners who helped to make the Series such a wonderful experience. One of our parishioners, who is our Pastoral Council Chair, and who did so much work to promote the Series, is now going to be one of the featured “reporters” on our Diocesan News Show – “Real to Reel”. My congratulations to Kathy Harrington, whose professional career in broadcasting, news production, reporting, and media relations will be such a gift to our Diocesan Catholic Community! Kathy already has done a segment on Kate’s Kitchen in Holyoke which aired last week, and will be reporting in an upcoming segment of “Real to Reel”, covering our Diocesan “Chrism Mass” at the Cathedral, which will take place this Monday. Watch for Kathy and for all the “Real to Reel” Reporters who have assisted us by hosting our Lenten Series! I am grateful for the Ministry of our Catholic Communications Office!
Please remember that our Diocesan Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) continues beyond the Lenten Season. Know that the Annual Catholic Appeal supports wonderful ministries which bring the Lord’s Mercy to others. THANK YOU for your generosity!
Just a reminder that in addition to the final evening of our “Lenten Speaker Series” on Wednesday, we have our final Evening Mass during Lent, on Tuesday at 5:30PM in the Chapel, followed by the final opportunity for Confession before Easter on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:30PM.
God Bless, Fr. Dan

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING CLASSES
Training classes will be held this coming April for those who would like to become an Altar Server. Anyone who has received first communion, and is in 2nd through 8th grade is eligible. It's never too late to give service. Please contact Sue in the parish office to be put on the list. If you have any questions about serving, don't hesitate to speak with Deacon Paul or Jim O'Connor.
LOW-GLUTEN HOSTS
Just a reminder that we provide Low-Gluten Hosts for those with gluten intolerance. If you are at Mass and wish to receive the Low-Gluten Host, please make your way during Communion time to the Chapel and the Tabernacle area. If you are seated or kneeling in the first row in the Chapel, the Eucharistic Ministers, when bringing back the Hosts after Communion, will offer you the Low-Gluten Host. We hope and pray this is a help to anyone with such needs.

please call Pauline at 862-3885 or Diane at 568-9754.
FROM BISHOP ROZANSKI
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Pope Francis has asked our parish to support Christians in the Holy Land.
Through the Good Friday Collection, you join with Catholics around the world to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace in a troubled land.
In these challenging times in the Middle East, your support means that our church will conduct parish ministry, provide Catholic education, feed the hungry, build housing for Christians, maintain shrines and operate refugee centers in the Holy Land.
Christians, along with all of the clergy and religious who serve in the Holy Land, will deeply appreciate your prayers and financial help! The political, religious and military challenges in the Holy Land are more complex than ever. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians.
Our parish will support Christians in the Holy Land through the Good Friday Collection, as requested by Pope Francis. Like Simon of Cyrene, you can help carry the cross under very difficult circumstances in the Holy Land.
PLEASE be generous.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Mitchell T. Rozanski
Bishop of Springfield
