What Will I Be Doing?

As a residential Waking Night Support Worker:

  • You will be expected to monitor the progress, or otherwise, of the service user, and, if requested by the Registered Manager, to make necessary reports within the service users individual files.
  • Helping the service user with their personal hygiene and personal care needs – helping to the toilet, changing pads and washing, changing of beds etc
  • Will be expected to record the events of the night in the Night Book.
  • Will undertake any ironing, or mending of service users clothes, as requested.
  • Will report to the Deputy Team Leader, Registered Manager or the Quality & Development Manager or a senior member of staff on duty, any problems regarding behaviour, health, and general welfare of any of the service users.
  • Will be expected to regularly check all rooms within the house. This is a statutory obligation.
  • Providing a safe and secure home environment for the service user and ensuring no unauthorised person is let on the premises
  • Administering medication as and when required (full training provided)
  • Supporting service users through times when they are feeling anxious and may result in them displaying risk behaviours

Summary of Terms & Benefits

  • The vacancies are permanent and worked on a 3 nights on/3 nights off rolling rota.
  • The salary will be paid on the Autism Together Scale point 9, currently £7.40 per hour, rising to point 10, currently £7.60 per hour on successful completion of a 6 month probationary period

Waking Night Support Worker Job Description

Main Purpose of the Post:

Within the policy and aims of the Autism Together, to participate with other Waking Night Support Workers under the direction of the Deputy Team Leader, Registered Manager and the Quality & Development Manager in establishing and maintaining high standards of residential support work practice within the organisation.

Responsible to:Firstly the Deputy Team Leader, Registered Manager, and the Quality & Development Manager. Ultimately the Director of Client Services and the Chief Executive.

Responsible for:Service User(s).

Relationships: To establish and maintain good working relationships with all staff

and service users.

Location:You may be required to work at any location within the organisation, as designated.

MAIN TASKS:

1.To attend to the care and well being of the service users, between the hours of10.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m. or 9.30 p.m. – 7.30 a.m. on a rota basis, for three consecutive nights outof six.

2.To undertake the bathing, toileting, changing of beds, and other such duties, with regard to the hygiene and cleanliness of the service users.

3.Will be expected to monitor the progress, or otherwise, of the service user, and, if requested by the Registered Manager, to make necessary reports within the service users individual files.

7.Will be expected to regularly check all rooms within the house. This is a statutory obligation.

8.Will have recourse to a member of staff who will be sleeping in, on each night during the working week.

9.The post holder will be asked to pay particular attention to the following points:-

a)The safety and well-being of the service user.

b)The post holder will, at no time, enter into correspondence or discussion with either parents, or outside agencies, with regard to the

service user, without prior approval of the Director of Client Services.

c)The post holder will at no time, take the service user outside of the organisation, without the prior approval of the Director of Client Services or the Chief Executive.

d)The post holder shall ensure that the service users access vocational and domestic equipment in a correct and safe manner.

e)The post holder will report to the Chief Executive or senior members of staff, any necessary repairs or renewals in both the equipment, and structure of the building.

f)The post holder shall ensure that all toxic substances are

stored in a safe manner.

10.The Waking Night Support Worker will take responsibility for the securing and

continual security of the building, during his/her working hours.

11.The Waking Night Support Worker will be expected to carry out half hourly checks,and log observations in the appropriate register allocated for this purpose.

12.To ensure continuity of care, no two Waking Night Support Workers on the samerota may be on holiday simultaneously.

It will be the responsibility of the Waking Night Support Workerto bring to the attention of any person in temporary hold of the post such as bank staff or agency staff, the following:-

(a)Any irregularities in the performance of temporary staff must

be brought to the attention of the Registered Manager, or

the Quality & Development Manager: - e.g. sleeping on duty,

failure to carry out specified duties, so these can be brought

to the attention of the relevant Manager or Agency.

(b)All bank staff or agency staff should be made aware that smoking is

notacceptable inside any of the organisation’s buildings.

OTHER:

To undertake training, conducive to personal role development.

To maintain a high level of professional conduct as befits an employee of the organisation.

As with all post in the organisation, a high degree of confidentiality is expected at all times. At no times will the post holder discuss the residents, staff or any other matter connected with the Autism Together, outside of the organisation.

The post holder will be expected to undertake, in exceptional circumstances, any other duties which may, from time to time, be specified by the Chief Executive or Senior Members of staff.
