TRINITY EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL
M E N’ S R E T R E A T O V E R V I E W
January 10-12, 2014
Camp St. Christopher, Seabrook Island, SC
“Have I got what it takes?” is the underlying question that haunts many modern men who are pulled by dreams of success, significance, and leaving some kind of a legacy behind.
Intellectual man, economic man, family man, sports man, sensual man, technological man have all become rival images beckoning us in our private moments.
But wise man?
Can it be that we have lost perspective on what really matters in life, and become victims of the image-makers?
Have we lost contact with the real thing?
TV presented us with stereotypical wise men in Mr. Miagi of Karate Kid and Kwai Chang Caine of Kung Fu. But we know that wisdom is a lot more than having pithy things to say at the right time.
This weekend we will explore what it is to be wise – not wise in our own eyes, but wise in the eyes of God, and those who know us best. What better legacy can we leave to our children and our associates and friends than the epitaph: “He was a wise person. I learned a lot from him?”
