MathsThis term in Maths, we will be covering the following objectives:
Read Roman numerals to 100 (I to C) and know that, over time, the numeral system changed to include the concept of zero and place value.
Continue to count in and recognise known multiples, extend to multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1000.
Solve problems involving increasingly harder fractions to calculate quantities, and fractions to divide quantities, including non-unit fractions where the answer is a whole number.
Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator practising through increasingly complex problems beyond one whole.
Solve addition and subtraction two-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why.
Solve one and two step problems in contexts involving multiplying and adding, including using the distributive law to multiply two digit numbers by one digit, integer scaling problems and harder correspondence problems.
Solve problems involving converting from hours to minutes; minutes to seconds; years to months; weeks to days.
Solve problems, involving reasoning about shapes and their properties. Explain solutions orally or using writing, diagrams, practical materials or dynamic geometry ICT tools. / Literacy
This term in Literacy, we will be focussing on Non-Fiction – Information Texts and Explanation Texts as well as a Narrative Unit – Stories from Other Cultures.
Speaking and Listening
To begin to recognise the difference between open and closed questions and is starting to demonstrate that they can use/apply these appropriately.
Reading
To give a personal response to the text and, with prompts, will refer to the features the writer has used provoke a reaction and the audience the text is aimed at.
Writing
To organise ideas into paragraphs around a theme.
To build a rich and varied vocabulary and sometimes use words effectively and deliberately to create a desired effect.
Continues to use a variety of sentence types including simple, compound and complex with a growing range of subordinating conjunctions e.g. previous range + until, unless, since, while, whereas.
SPaG
To use apostrophes to mark plural possession.
Usually makes appropriate choice of pronoun or noun within and across sentences to aid cohesion and avoid repetition.
Science
This term we will be covering two topics – Electricity and Animals including Humans.
In the first topic, we will look at howwe use electricity in our homes, making a working series circuit, exploring how a switch works and investigating what are electrical conductors & insulators.
In the latter topic, we will observe the human skeleton and digestive system. / History
Our topic this term is The Anglo-Saxons and The Scots.
Through this topic, which involves a class assembly and a class visit to Bede’s World, children will understand the meaning of invading and settling. They will be able to place Anglo-Saxons on a timeline in history, understanding where the Saxons came from and who they were. They will recognise the locations of the Saxon Kingdoms and settlements, describing how the Anglo-Saxons lived. They will build and construct a small Anglo-Saxon village and explore the Anglo-Saxon Religion and beliefs. Further to this, children will investigate the mystery of Sutton Hoo.
Computing
This term in Computing, we will be covering two topics – Information Handling and Digital Image.
Information Handling will look at the use of Access databases and Excel spreadsheets to create a range of charts and graphs to present various information.
Digital Image will explore being able to independently capture, store, retrieve and edit a digital image, developing greater control over the digital stills video camera and use the enhanced tools (Macro, Landscape, Zoom). They will create a short animated sequence from captured images in simple storyboarding software to communicate a specific idea. / Art and Design
Our topic for Art and Design is Landscapes.
Children will explore, evaluate and produce their own versions of landscapes by different artists including: The Flora on the Heath: Paul Klee

Design and Technology
Our topic will link directly to our History topic.
Children will plan, build and evaluate their own Anglo-Saxon village. / RE
Children will study Christianity and Judaism.
This term, we will continue to consider the beliefs and principles of both religions, considering how Christians and Jews adopt these principles on the daily life.
PE
Children will continue to attend weekly swimming lessons at Dunston Leisure Centre. They will have gymnastics delivered by a coach and athletics. / French
Children will learn about hobbies, leisure activities, numbers 12 – 31 and weather expressions.
