Item 5 (iv) should read Drs in training.

4 MATTERS ARISING

Item 3 – Electronic prescription service is now live and to date is progressing well. Concern about Co-op Pharmacy approach and explanation of the new service. LB has spoken to the Co-op in respect of this.

Item 4 – Dr Haque, Dr in Training, will be joining the surgery for the next 4 months as the existing Dr in Training has now completed his commitment.

Item 7 – DG confirmed he would send a thank you letter to Russ Tipson from Action Heart, for his talk.

5 MEMBERSHIP

DG contacted all from the list that the Practice Manager had sent him and as stated in the Welcome Gill Bostock has now joined the PPG.

6 UPDATE ON DEFIBRILLATOR MACHINE

DB informed all that she is aware of an organisation that may be able to find support in obtaining the machine and stated she would now go back and discuss in more detail.

If the Practice was to agree to the machine being situated in the surgery then they would take responsibility for its upkeep. The only negative side to this is the surgery’s opening hours if the machine is situated inside.

7 REPORTS

PRACTICE MANAGER

Friends & Family Survey Results – September 2015

We asked patients of Lower Gornal Medical Practice to give us feedback on their care and treatment at the surgery by completing a Friends and Family Test.

56 patients/carers took part in this test and here are the results:

How likely to recommend this GP Practice / Results
Extremely likely / 49
Likely / 2
Neither likely or unlikely / 1
Unlikely / 2
Extremely unlikely / 0
Don’t know / 2

Here are some of the comments made for additional services to benefit patients:

“It’s a very good practice and I can’t think of anything else needed at the moment” – We are grateful for your kind words. We try our best to offer the best service we can and are continuously trying to improve services.

“Better parking” –At the moment we are unable to facilitate this.

The above taken from the surgery web site http://www.lowergornalmedicalpractice.nhs.uk/friends-family-test-results/

Friends & Family Survey Results – October 2015 are not as yet on the web site. The results are very similar to September and again one of the comments is to do with parking and availability of blood tests.

LB stated that the results are very positive and to date the complaints are very low for this year.

LB confirmed that there will be a change to online access to procedures. As at the end of March 2016 patients will have more access to their medical records online. This will mean that there will have to be a more rigorous procedure to registration forms and possibly ID will be needed when registering. LB will confirm whether this will be for new registrations only or including existing registrations as soon as everything has been put in place.

DG commented that the one area that is of concern and has been mentioned in a meeting with the Practice Manager is the waiting time to see a doctor with the following issues raised.

Ø  The amount of time patients have with their doctors.

Ø  Dr S stated that in some cases patients do not require one consultation and that other issues can arise within a 10 minute appointment which then starts the delay process.

Ø  Online appointment booking for more than one session.

Ø  Dr S confirmed that this is not possible with the software they have in place for online appointments.

Dr S agrees that there must be a consistent approach by all doctors within the Practice and has taken on board all that has been discussed and has given his commitment to look at the issue of waiting time in more depth.

CHAIR - ACTION HEART TALK

DG confirmed that the talk that was held on the 20 November with Russ Timpson, Action Heart, was a success. DG will look to see if the costs can be applied for out of the funding that is available to the PPG. CB stated that she had taken photos, with the permission of all at the meeting, and these will be added as an album on Facebook once the page has been created. The intentions are that the PPG will hold two “talks” a year.

8 UPDATE ON FACEBOOK

The working group for Facebook so far is David Gill, Chris Bate, Julie Pitt and Elaine Lloyd.

The working group met on Wednesday 11 November at Ellowes Hall Sports College where Facebook (FB) was looked at in more detail and it was agreed that this is the right way forward for our PPG.

From this it was agreed that administrators for the page would be a mix of PPG members and Practice staff and that a photograph of the PPG would be needed for the front page of FB.

All of the above was discussed and a photograph was taken.

LB will come back to us with who the administrators would be from the Practice and wondered whether Lindsey Harding from Dudley CCG Team may be able to help us with the setting up of FB. DG is to approach Lindsey.

9 AOB

Masefield Surgery – Consultation with patients will run up to the end of December. Once consultation is finalised all comments, concerns, issues will be sent to CCG and then forwarded onto two committees who then will make the final decision as to whether Masefield will close or stay open.

If the decision is to stay open then the issue of maintaining the existing services and staffing will have to be looked at.

This above to be included as an agenda item for the next meeting.

The question was raised as to whether the Library could be used for small support groups to not only make use of the Library but to alleviate the issue of space in the surgery?

DB mentioned that she volunteers at SCOPE and that a representative would be happy to come to one of the PPG meetings to talk about the services they provide.
