PHILOSOPHY OF DRESS

The Board of School Directors has adopted the following rule:

“Any deviation from acceptable dress standards, hair style and general appearance on the part of the student, which, in the opinion of the Principal, is a disturbing influence in the school, is cause for disciplinary action until such condition is corrected.” (BP 221)

Clothing or accessories that could cause injury to self or others, or cause excessive wear or damage to school property are unacceptable. Grooming and dress with prevents the student and/or his peers from doing their best work because of blocked vision, or hearing or restricted movement are unacceptable. Clothing should be neat, clean and not hazardous for school activities. Offensive attire creates an environment not conducive to education or developing positive self-images. Students should not wear expensive jewelry to school.

THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF UNACCEPTABLE SCHOOL DRESS:

1.  Bare midriff clothing, any see-through clothing, or tops which reveal any portion of the midriff

2.  Bathing suits, tops or trunks

3.  Chains, spikes, metal work on boots, pants, skirts, jackets, clothing or accessories that can be deemed to be dangerous to others.

4.  Clothing/jewelry displaying patches/slogans/pictures which suggest the use of alcohol, and /or drugs, which contain obscene or offensive language, or depict sexual, violent or illegal behavior

5.  Footwear that leaves marks or abrasives on the floor surfaces or we view as a safety concern.

6.  Hats, caps, headbands not meant to hold hair, other head coverings (not religious in nature) and sunglasses

7.  Holey, or cut-off clothing of inappropriate length (holes must be at or below fingertip length)

8.  Skirts and shorts of inappropriate length

9.  Shirts with shoulder straps less than three fingertip lengths.

10. Spandex, tight clothing or ill-fitting garments not covered by a top or

skirt; tops that have too low a neckline.

Violations of this dress code may result in a warning from the teacher or an administrator, and/or the request that a change of clothing be supplied by the parent/guardian.
