FYSA Coaching Education Program

Philosophy:

The philosophy behind the FYSA Coaching Courses is to provide instruction to any individual regardless of his/her coaching or playing background. The courses were designed to instruct the candidates in coaching and teaching methods which are appropriate, economical, and efficient. Coaches should attend the level course that is most appropriate for the players they are coaching.

6/8, 8/10 and 10/12 Modules: will remain the same, age specific training with appropriate activities for youth players. Each of the three modules is six hours. The cost is $25 per coach. The minimum age to attend a module is 12.

F certificate: 8 hour course is the introductory course to 11 a-side soccer of players 12 years old and up. If you are coaching at the U10 or younger age levels, the youth modules would be the more appropriate course (see above). This course will include player development philosophies, team management, technical and tactical topics. This course also serves a preparatory course for the E license course. The cost is $50 per coach. The minimum age to attend the F course is 14.

E license: This course is a preparation for and prerequisite to the D license. Candidates learn how to plan and execute age-appropriate technical training sessions, and develop their understanding of the principles of attacking and defending.

Course Prerequisites: “E” candidates enroll online and submit a series of assignments a minimum of two weeks prior to the course start in order to be eligible to attend the course. Click here for details.

The 20 hour course spans Friday evening thru Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $125 per coach. The minimum age to attend the E course is 16.

D license: Candidates learn to recognize and teach the principles of play, with an emphasis on planning in weekly training cycles to complete a seasonal plan. The D license is a 36 hour course, which is held in two parts over two separate weekends. The format for the course is:

The format is as follows:

·  A candidate would need to attain an E license at least six months prior to applying for a D License.

·  Pre course work-Each coach would need to complete with their team 5 training sessions. The coach would submit their lesson plan and reaction/summary for the session at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the course.

·  There will be two face to face classroom/field weekends for the course.

·  The first weekend of the course “Instructional Phase” would mainly consist of instruction and practice coaching sessions.

·  There is a minimum of 10 weeks time between the first weekend-instruction and the second weekend-evaluation of the course.

·  In the time between the instruction weekend and the evaluation the coaches would need to complete five training sessions with their team and summit their lesson plan and reaction summary. At least one of the five sessions would need to be mentored as the coach does the session.

·  The second weekend of the course “Performance Review” would include instruction, practice coaching, and evaluations.

·  Note: The “Instructional Phase”-first weekend” and the “Performance Review”-second weekend may be required to be at different sites. Coaches also have the option to take the two weekends at sites that suit their schedule.

The fee for the course is $250 per coach. The minimum age to attend the course is 17.

Attendance Policy:

Candidates taking any FYSA coaching course must attend all sessions, and complete all coursework for that course in order to earn the license. If a candidate misses any part of the course, they will be marked as incomplete, and will need to attend the missed portions at another course in order to receive their license.

US Soccer Waiver Policy: Coaches who have played at a professional division 1 level or for a full national team may be eligible for a waiver to a national course. Inquiries should be directed to .
