Unwritten

Natasha Bedingfield

“I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at…

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, yeah, yeah”

I think that the song “Unwritten” is the best to describe this book. The song is basically about start out new and turning over a new leaf. How no one can write your future, you are the onlyperson who can decide what happens in your life and I think that that is the same message that the book is giving out. In the lyrics “I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined, I’m just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned” means that no one can know their future, but they have the power to change it. Just like Brent had the power to change his future by mounting the Whirligigs for Lea’s mom and to become the “New Brent”. “Staring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window” means that you can rewrite your own story and you have the opportunity to make it whatever you want.Brent could have just said no to the task, but he wanted to be a better person, so he took that task and it was just like he was starting a new chapter in the “Book of Brent” “Feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you, only you can let it in, no one else, no one else” this demonstrates that no one can determine your future. You the only person who has the power to change your future and what you do in your future.“Today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten” means that you have the chance to start over and rewrite your ending or your future. Even if you don’t know what is going to happen, you are the only one who can determine what is going to happen. This is Brent’s chance to stat out fresh and to start his life over again.
