Badminton

History: A form of badminton was first played in China with different rules. Modern badminton was invented around 1870 and named for the country estate of Badminton in England, home of the Duke of Beaufort. It became a full-metal Olympic sport in 1992.

Rules:

Scoring: every serve results in point for one team or the other

Games are played to21 points and must win by 2 points. The only exception is when the score is tied at 29-29 and the next point wins

A match consists of the best of 2 out of 3 games.

The team serving first must serve from the right hand court. After that, if the score is zero or even, the team serves from the right. The team must serve from the left hand court if their score is odd. The person serving continues to serve after a point is won by the service team. If the point is lost by the serving team, the other team serves (person on right if their score is even, person on the left if their score is odd).

Service rules: both feet must be stationary when serving and

serve can not hit the net

The first team that serves is determined by a coin toss or a spin of the racket.

If the birdie (also known as a shuttlecock) lands on the line, it is IN.

Lets: a point must be replayed

Examples of lets: shuttle lands and stays on the net
