Local after school programs receive backpacks and school supplies thanks to 15 organizations

Saginaw County union members will kick-off their United Way of Saginaw County annual giving campaign by distributing donated backpacks and school supplies on Thursday, August 25.

The backpacks and school supplies were collected throughout the month of August from the following unions members and organization staff: CWA Local 4108, IBEW Local 557, UAW Local 699, IAM-PM Local 2839, OPEIU Local 393, UAW Local 668, U.A. Local 85, Mid-Michigan Area Labor Council, Utility Workers Local 104, Wanigas Credit Union, Covenant HealthCare, PMN Saginaw Metal Castings, Nexteer Automotive, Consumers Energy – Saginaw Employee Engagement Team and United Way.

Representatives from 7 local agencies will receive their donations on Thursday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m. The distribution will take place at UAW Local 699 (1911 Bagley St., Saginaw 48601).

Agency representatives and community leaders will be available between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. for any comments or photo opportunities.

Agencies to accept the donations include: YMCA, Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, First Ward Community Center, Boy Scouts Water and Woods Field Service Council and Samaritas.

This is not a public event. Media representatives are encouraged to arrive by 10:15 a.m. to capture the distribution of supplies.
