Water Resource Education Mini-Grants
The LCWA Board has awarded over $390,000 since 2001 to local educators.
Grant Objective:To promote freshwater resource education in Lake County’s public and private schools by awarding grants that focus on issues that affect our local water resources.
Grant Award:Up to$ 2,000
Deadline:Monday, October 3, 2016by 5:00 p.m.
Submission:One original and six copies (7 total) of the completed grant application packet should be mailed or hand-delivered to the Lake County Water Authority, 27351 SR 19, Tavares, Florida 32778 (New location at Hickory Point).Please review all submittals to make sure application is legible, itemized budgets & accompanying materials are included.
Award Criteria:Grant applications will be evaluated based upon pertinence to Lake County’s freshwater resources, pertinence to the Florida Standards, number of students grant will serve, pre- & post-activities for field trips, idea uniqueness/originality, cost appropriate to project, age & equipment appropriate, etc.

- All applicants are responsible for reading and understanding the enclosed mini-grant guidelines prior to submitting an application.
- Applicants are responsible for remembering the important dates listed below.

Please note: Approved funds are on a reimbursable basis for public and private schools. Reimbursement arrangements will be made with school winners. You may submit more than one application. One original and six copies (7 total) must be submitted to be considered. E-mailed or faxed copies will not be accepted. Include initialed teacher guidelines with grant submission.
Remember to include costs of shipping & handling, and discounts you receive as an educator. Be sure that your application does not include tax. (Please type or write legibly)

TEACHER GUIDELINES
For FY 2016-2017 Water Resource Education Mini-grants
Education Mini-Grant Objective: To promote freshwater resource education in Lake County’s public and private schools by awarding grants that focus on local freshwater issues.
NOTE: GRANT GUIDLELINES HAVE CHANGED THIS YEAR.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
To help you achieve the highest score with your grant application,to understand the grant award process and expenditure requirements, please review the following guidelines:
- Application should fully and concisely explain the correlation between the grant request and how it will be used to teach the Florida Standards.
- Application should fully and concisely explain how the grant request will benefit freshwater resource education.
- Application that demonstrates a benefit for the maximum number of students shall receive higher points.
- Application that focuses on Lake County freshwater issues dealing with water quality and/or water conservation of our freshwater systems shall receive higher points.
- Application that focuses on Central Florida and in particular Lake County terrain, soil, animals, plants, and waterbodies shall receive higher points.
- Application that demonstrates that reading and audio visual materials are grade and age appropriate with supporting documentation shall receive higher points.
- Application that demonstrates higher number of students served by the grant award and the ability of the project and equipment to be shared with other students, grades, or schools shall receive higher points.
- Application that requests expensive equipment (e.g., projectors, laptops, microscopes, document cameras, etc.) must demonstrate how they will be used for freshwater resource related education to receive higher points.
- Application that demonstrates different and/or unique freshwater resource projects shall receive higher points.
- Furniture, file cabinets, bookcases, AV carts, movie screens, or headsets will not be funded through this grant program.
- The Lake County Water Authority reserves the right to deny any application that does not meet the grant program guidelines.
- The Lake County Water Authority reserves the right to award less than the requested amount.
- The Lake County Water Authority has the right to suggest less costly alternatives that would still be within the spirit of the awarded grant.
- Revisions/substitutions to the grants must be approved by the Lake County Water Authority in writing or expenditure will be denied & funds must be reimbursed to the Lake County Water Authority.
- The grant money is to be spent in the year that it was granted. No carryovers or gift cards to be spent in the future.

- Awarded Grants shall not be transferable.
- Items purchased with the grant funds (e.g., equipment, books, videos) shall remain with the school that was awarded the original grant. If the school is no longer able to house the items, then the items shall either be returned to the Lake County Water Authority or with prior agreement, to the Lake County School Board for disbursal to another school.
- Teacher awarded the grant is responsible for abiding by grant deadlines, for presenting the receipts and for keeping all paperwork as proof of purchases and expenditure of grant funds. Missed deadlines and missing receipts will cause expenditures to be denied by the Lake County Water Authority. Failure to turn in complete paperwork will mean exclusion from participation the following year.
