A RESOLUTION honoring Morgan County Judge Executive Tim Conley and West Liberty Mayor Jim Rupe for their leadership in their community in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes.
WHEREAS, the severe weather that brought tornadoes to many parts of Kentucky on March 2, 2012, brought particular devastation to Morgan County and the town of West Liberty, which was reduced to rubble; and
WHEREAS, the tornado that devastated West Liberty came two days after another tornado caused damage in the communities of Mize, Greear, and Malone; and
WHEREAS, six Morgan County residents were killed by the severe weather and tornadoes on March 2nd, and most of the homes and businesses in West Liberty were completely destroyed or severely damaged, including most of the community's historical landmarks; and
WHEREAS, in the weeks since the tornadoes, the residents of West Liberty and Morgan County have rallied together, in grief as well as in perseverance, as they assess the damage and begin the slow process of rebuilding; and
WHEREAS, instrumental in providing leadership and solace to the residents of Morgan County and West Liberty are Morgan County Judge Executive Tim Conley and West Liberty Mayor Jim Rupe. They have become the lifeblood for information, encouragement, and solace in the wake of the storms; and
WHEREAS, Tim Conley and Jim Rupe have done everything in their power to communicate with their residents, individually and in community forums, to provide access to necessary information for residents affected by the storms, to help communities grieve, and to rally them as they begin to envision a new but very different future for their communities;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The Senate hereby recognizes and applauds the leadership provided by Morgan County Judge Executive Tim Conley and West Liberty Mayor Jim Rupe in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Morgan County Judge Executive Tim Conley and West Liberty Mayor Jim Rupe.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to send two copies of this Resolution to the office of Senator Robert Stivers II, Capitol Annex Room 242.
