Dear Parents,
Your child is interested in becoming a member of the Marlboro Cheerleading program. If chosen, there are specific responsibilities and obligations, which your child must assume in order to qualify and remain a part of the squad.
After reading the attached guidelines with your child please sign the last page and return just that page. The rest is for you and your child to keep. Also fill out the attached contact information form and order form and return those to me. Payments are due by the start of the season. If you need to work out a payment plan, that can be arranged. Your child must also have a physical completed by the school nurse or their own doctor before practice begins in August.
We look forward to a successful and great year. We are dedicated to making the cheerleading program at Marlboro a fun and positive experience for all involved.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Sarah Santora Brittany Lobdell
Cheerleading Guidelines
Practice
1. Girls must be dressed and prepared for practice at the time scheduled by the Coach. You must have your cheerleading sneakers in order to be properly dressed.
2. You cannot be late for practice (unless there is an academic reason) and you cannot leave early. Make all other plans around the cheerleading schedule. Work, driver’s ed., pinnacle, doctors, etc. are not reasons to leave a scheduled practice early or to arrive late.
3. You must have a legal excuse for missing practice e.g. medical absence from school. Work is not a reason to miss practice. If you leave school early you must notify coach.
4. If you miss the practice before a game, you will not be allowed to cheer, but you must attend the game in uniform and sit with the team
5. Absolutely no stunting without your coach being present.
6. No jewelry is allowed to be worn during practice. I don’t want to remind you, get it off before you come into practice. Wait to get any piercing done until after the season. Any piercings that pose an injury to base or flyer will have to be removed.
7. You must warm up each day for stunts and jumps
8. Practices are usually from 2:30 – 4:00. The Coach will have a calendar of games and practices available to you each month. The Coach will have it to you at least a month in advance.
9. You may not practice if you do not come to school that day.
10. You may not practice if you sit out from Physical Education. If you are well enough to practice you are well enough to play gym.
11. Nails must be worn short and neat. They must not make any marks in the palm of your hand when making fists. Nail polish color must be French or a pale pink or neutral color.
12. No cell phones or food at practice.
13. Hair must be worn up and off your shoulders.
Conduct
1. You are expected to follow all school rules and athletic code of conduct guidelines.
Games
1. Be properly dressed for games with all required uniform pieces including cheerleading sneakers, ribbons, and cheerleading socks.
2. Absolutely no jewelry is to be worn at games. Same rules apply for piercings.
3. If you are suspended from the team for a game by the coach you must attend the game in full uniform and sit with the team.
4. Remember we are a team and we work together as a team. It is important to show respect to all involved. Spirit begins with the cheerleaders. We must cheer on each other as well as the players.
5. You must arrive for a game at the schedule time.
6. An illegal absence from a game may result in immediate dismissal from the squad.
7. You must arrive for these games ready to cheer. There will be no time to get dressed or do hair and make-up.
8. No cell phones on the sidelines.
9. During half time we will remain on the sideline. If you have to use the bathroom or get a drink you will be dismissed from the sideline and immediately return to the sideline when you are finished.
10. Hair must be worn up and off your shoulders
