The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts

Salary: £57,047 - £58,754 (with possible progression up to £76,610)

Located within the School of Arts, Social Sciences and Management, the Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts presently hosts a number of undergraduate programmes comprising: Film and Media, Media, Theatre and Film Studies, Public Relations and Media, Public Relations, Marketing and Events, Drama & Performance, Costume Design and Construction and Acting for Stage and Screen. Postgraduate programmes within the Division include the MSc in Strategic Communication and Public Relations, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Postgraduate Diplomas, MA Arts, Festival and Cultural Management and MA Culture and Creative Enterprise. The Division contributes to the School wide MRes programme and has a number of postgraduate research students. The Division also validates a BA in Media Production in collaboration with our partners, AKMI Metropolitan College, in Greece.

Specialist facilities of the Division include video edit suites with specialist software (and related equipment), a studio theatre, costume design and construction workshops, a set design and construction workshop, as well as access to standard library and network facilities and a small television studio.

The Media, Communication and Performing Arts Division consists of 36 Academic and Technical Support staff members. It provides expertise in both research and teaching in the fields of Media, Culture, Film, Public Relations and the Performing Arts.

On the quality of publications in the area, QMU came first in Scotland with 77% outputs ranked as world leading or internationally excellent.

Staff members have attracted research funds from a variety of sources including the ESRC, the AHRC, the Scottish Executive, Carnegie Trust, and the Robertson Trust. The Division organises and hosts various events in support of its research and knowledge exchange, and collaborates with the university and non-university sectors on research and knowledge exchange projects. The Division supports research by, for example, hosting conferences, colloquia and seminars, and allocating research support funds and PhD studentships.
