Personal Statement

As a Mechanical Engineer, I have completed a 4 year graduate MPDS training scheme with my current company. Upon completion I was promoted to the position of Section Engineer and subsequently have been given various developmental roles to broaden my technical, supervisory and project management skills.

I have gained experience in a range of sectors including Petrochemical, Nuclear, Coal fired Power stations, and Pharmaceutical. In addition to my site experience, which included TAR preparation and Project Management, I have also been involved in Design, Contract Tendering and Accident Investigation.

I am a hard working, committed, motivated and pro-active individual with high standards of safety, delivery focused and able to use my own initiative. I have excellent organisational, leadership, communication and computer skills. I am also a keen and quick learner.

I am looking for a position based around the Glasgow area that offers me further development, responsibility and will enhance my technical and leadership skills.

I am happy to spend a reasonable amount of time on site visits away from base location.

I am currently working at Kinneil as a Section Engineer pre-planning and engineering all work for the upcoming major outage at Kinneil.

Hunterston BNuclear Power StationJan 2013 – May 2013

Iwas assigned to the power station as theSite Engineer coordinating all jobs, resources and contractors involved with the projects scope including work on pipe-work, penetrations and vessels,as well as assisting in the coordination of general site activities.

Grangemouth Refinery Apr 2012 – Jan 2013

I worked in various capacities within the refinery including Supervisor at the Power station, Mechanical Engineer (pre-planning) for COD3, and Area Lead Engineer for TAR for COD 3 (Temporarily assigned to Ineos to fulfil this role in their capacity) I was then assigned to pre-planning for the KG train 2 re-commissioning project.

My overall experience included managing a multi-disciplinary team and co-ordinating vendors and sub-contractors

I worked as a Proposals Engineer preparing Tender Documents and negotiating with clients for several projects throughout all sectors that Doosan Power Systems are involved in. I received a bonus award for outstanding achievement is achieving contract success.

I worked as a Supervisorfor the cleaning and testing of exchangers (involves spading, pulling bundle, cleaning, testing, push bundle, de-spading) as well as removal/reinstatement of several control valve and safety valves.

I worked in various capacities within the power station including as Area Lead and OutageEngineer, coordinating all jobs, resources and contractors involved with the surface preparation of various pipe-work, penetrations and vessels for NDT inspections,assisting in the preparation for statutory outages and assisting in the coordination of general site activities.

I worked in various capacities within the refinery including Graduate Engineer, Supervisor, Area Co-ordinator and Section engineer. These all involved pre-planning, co-ordination and execution of TAR activities.

I assisted with the design of an SCR unit for Ratcliff power station and used STAAD program to calculate lifting weights and extremity dimensions.

IKEA, Braehead, Glasgow, Scotland(Jan 2004 – Jul 2008) .

Whilst at University I worked in their customer services department, dealing direct with customer complaints and returns, customer collection, check-out duties and any other support requirements. Due to my broad knowledge and experience, I was sent to assist with training of new staff at a new superstore in Milton Keynes. From August 2007 I volunteered to do one day per week to help out in the IKEA Maintenance dept in order to gain some industrial experience.

Skills

I possess a good general technical knowledge covering a wide range of industrial sectors.

I am computer literate, with good organisational and leadership skills.

I am also skilled in planning inc Primavera P6, technical work pack preparation, safety packs and risk assessments.

Additional Information & Interests

I am married with one child and possess a full clean driving licence.

I studied Karate achieving a Black Belt and won the Scottish championship in my Karate association.

I also achieved a Silver Award in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
