Purpose

Report on Fleet Operations and Maintenance activities.

Background

During the quarter tenders closed for a van, line painting machine, Trackless MT, leaf harvester, street sweeper, and a backhoe/loader. The line painter, Trackless MT and leaf harvester are in service with the backhoe/loader, van and street sweeper not yet delivered.

We took delivery of the snow plow/sander truck and one ton ordered last year. Both are in service and have performed very well.

We are finalizing the spec for the digger derrick for hydro and hope to proceed on this by the end of April with delivery either late 2002 or early in 2003.

We did not experience any major unbudgeted breakdowns or repairs however we have limited the use of #64 which we plan to replace next year and do not want to get into repairs that we will not get a return on with the selling of the truck.

We have not ordered the new hoist pending final resolution and design of the proposed Parks storage facility at Works.

We also have to replace the road grader (#82) and do not anticipate problems in staying within the budget allocation.

SHORT TERM GOALS

• Complete the specs for the digger derrick and seek proposals for a replacement.
• Continue to seek sources of outside revenue in the area of emergency vehicle repairs.
• Finalize the design of the renovation to house the Parks equipment.
• Sell the surplus generator purchased in preparedness for Y2K.

LONG TERM GOALS

• Computerize maintenance records.
• Maintain an adequate equipment replacement plan and reserve fund.
• Maintain shop tools and equipment inventories.
• Implement and maintain staff training.
• Maintain Occupational Health and Safety standards.
• Continue to monitor and evaluate the fleet replacement schedule.
