OBJECTIVE: The student will be able to…
- See examples of Andy Warhol’s work.
- Understand Warhol’s subject mater were images of products that were familiar to people.
- See the characteristics of Warhol’s work, including popular images, bright colors and repetition.
- View a DVD on the life and art of Andy Warhol
- Understand the definition of analogous colors – 3 colors located next to each other on the color wheel.
- Find 3 analogous colors in magazines
- Glue examples of analogous colors in appropriate places on paper
- Create an artwork in the style of Andy Warhol using analogous colors and a repeated, printed image from a label from a popular food item.

MATERIALS/TECHNOLOGIES NEEDED:Andy Warhol DVD, examples of Warhol artwork, color wheel, magazines
LESSON PROCEDURES: (What the teacher will do)
- Discuss characteristics of artwork by Andy Warhol.
- Show examples of artwork which includes popular images, bright colors and repetition.
- Define “Pop” art as artwork that used popular images as subject matter
- Explain that today we will view a video on Andy Warhol and begin an artwork in his style.
- Review color wheel
- Explain that analogous colors are those that are located near each other on the color wheel. Point to analogous colors
- Demonstrate how to: 1. Choose 3 analogous colors from color wheel to use in artwork. 2. Divide paper into three sections 3.Use a crayon to mark which color will go in each section. 4. Look through magazines and find examples of colors that were chosen. 4.Glue magazine paper into appropriate section. 5. Add printed image of popular product in each section. .

This activity allows students to recognize the use of popular images in Pop Art, use analogous colors in artwork and become familiar with artist, Andy Warhol.
SUMMARY/CLOSURE/ASSESSMENT:
Assessment will be through observation of students’ art products. Have students created an artwork in the style of Andy Warhol utilizing bright colors and a repeating image of a popular product?
