A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MAYOR RUFUS CALLAHAM OF BELTON FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE, TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS MAYOR OF BELTON, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives notes with appreciation the career of Mayor Rufus Callaham of Belton, who will retire in April 2014 after fourteen successful years at the helm of his city’s government; and

Whereas, seldom has a mayor of a city worked as hard to improve quality of life and guarantee the future of his city as has Rufus Callaham; and

Whereas, during his fourteenyear tenure as mayor, Rufus Callaham has had the satisfaction of seeing a number of projects come to fruition for Belton, among them the purchase of three new fire trucks and a fleet of six new patrol cars. In addition, the city has received one million dollars in FEMA AFG grants and acquired the Belton National Guard Armory (2013); and

Whereas, other completed projects include extensive upgrades to the public water and sewer systems; remodeling of the second floor of Belton City Hall; installation of elevators that comply with the disability code; paving of twentysix streets; remodeling of City Square with landscaping, new sidewalks, and new stamped concrete; installation of the Flex Net meterreading system; and many other improvements; and

Whereas, although Rufus Callaham is retiring as Belton’s mayor and previously retired from Liberty Life, he does not plan to retire from benefiting his community. As a man of faith, he serves his God and community as a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church; and

Whereas, he finds strength for his labors in the firm support of his family, his beloved wife of fiftyseven years, Grace Callaham; the couple’s four fine children, Cyndi, Philip, Kathy, and Cheryl; five delightful grandchildren; and ten charming greatgrandchildren; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is grateful for the visionary leadership of Mayor Rufus Callaham, and the members take much pleasure in joining with the citizens of Belton in extending to him best wishes as he begins a welldeserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Mayor Rufus Callaham of Belton for his many years of dedicated public service, congratulate him upon his retirement as mayor of Belton, and wish him much success and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mayor Rufus Callaham.
