4. Dr. Eftink asked the Council to re-consider the Department of Pharmacognosy’s request to approve Dr. Hala El Sohly to serve on Mr. Nirmal Pugh’s dissertation committee. With one opposing vote, the request was denied because no evidence was presented as to why a joint academic appointment is not possible which would allow Associate membership on the Council and service on dissertation committees.

5. On a motion by Taylor, seconded by Williamson, the Council voted to amend the Admission to the Graduate Faculty Policy as follows:

Acting, adjunct, research, and visiting professors with appropriate terminal degrees and holding an appointment in an academic department may exercise the responsibilities of Associate Members with the approval of their Chairman and their Dean.

6. Associate Graduate Faculty membership was approved for Dr. Robert Aubrey, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. On a motion by Williamson, seconded by Adler, Dr. Philip Copeland, Mr. Bradley Robinson, and Mr. Stacy Rodgers were granted permission to serve on masters’ theses committees and to teach 500 level courses. There was one opposing vote.

The reappointment of Dr. Phillip Copeland as an assistant professor (even in an acting capacity) would immediately make him eligible for membership on the graduate faculty.

·  Graduate Admissions: Publish time and course requirements for students admitted as qualifying;

·  Graduation Completion Policies: Publish all specific departmental completion requirements for graduation;
