A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. JOHN THROCKMORTON OF THE SPRINGFIELD COMMUNITY IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ON THE SPARTANBURG COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE AND HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LIFE OF HIS COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Mr. John Throckmorton of the Springfield community in Spartanburg County was appointed to the Spartanburg County Transportation Committee in September, 1997, and currently serves as vicechairman of the committee; and

Whereas, in his brief tenure on the committee, he has been an exemplar of a dedicated public servant—hardworking and fair minded; and

Whereas, Mr. Throckmorton is a Missouri native who received his degree in chemical engineering at the University of Missouri at Rolla and has lived with his family in the Springfield community of Spartanburg County since 1972; and

Whereas, in his professional life, he works at KoSa (formerly Hoechst Fibers and Hoechst Celanese) where he manages the staple physicals laboratory and is responsible for quality assurance of light denier staple products produced in Spartanburg; and

Whereas, he is a devoted family man, married for thirty years, the father of two accomplished daughters, and an active member at North Spartanburg First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, his devotion to community service is exemplified by his work with the Jaycees, being named Spartanburg Jaycee of the Year in 1972 and 1973, as Spartanburg County Volunteer of the Year Runnerup in 1991, his service in the School District II PTA, in which he was awarded a lifetime membership in 1990, as a member of the Spartanburg County PTA Board of Managers, and in numerous volunteer capacities with the operations of Spartanburg County School District II; and

Whereas, further evidence of his community mindedness are his efforts on the STOP Drugs Now Coalition, on the Boiling Springs Area Council, the Boiling Springs Branch Library Expansion Committee, as a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg, and as a volunteer with Citizens for Better, Safer Roads; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so they might honor the public service of so distinguished a South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation to Mr. John Throckmorton of the Springfield community in Spartanburg County for his distinguished service on the Spartanburg County Transportation Committee and his many contributions to the life of the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. John Throckmorton.
