RACE 1 – TASRACING MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
MRS BRAVO was declared a late scratching at 10:35am by order of stewards when it was reported that the mare had a foot abscess. Trainer Paula Mallinson was advised that she must submit a veterinary certificate prior to MRS BRAVO racing again.
FRENCH BRAID was slow to begin (3L).
FRENCH BRAID (Jason Lowe) raced ungenerously and hung out near the 600 metres. Jason Lowe explained that the filly became unbalanced near the 600 metres and he felt something had gone amiss as the filly failed to respond to his riding thereafter. FRENCH BRAID underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed that while no obvious abnormalities were detected, the filly was lacking racing condition.
RACE 3 – MCKINNON CLASS A HANDICAP – 1000 METRES
NEXT COPY and LOUGH CARRANE were slow to begin (2L).
BLUE ALBA shifted out near the 700 metres.
LOUGH CURRANE (Chris Nicoll) which performed below market expectation underwent a post-race veterinary examination with the veterinary surgeon reporting that no obvious abnormalities could be detected. Chris Nicoll stated that after not obtaining the lead early, and being pushed wide on the home turn, the gelding failed to respond to his riding. Mr Nicoll further stated that at the gelding’s last start it led easily over 1200 metres and today was dropping back 200 metres in distance and unable to lead.
RACE 4 – RUSSELL’S BUTCHERY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1600 METRES
DARCEY’S STAR bounded in the air at the start and was slow to begin.
Leaving the home straight, ISLAND PRINCE had to check off the heels of THREE DAY WAIT.
BANNER’S BOY underwent a post-race veterinary examination with the veterinary surgeon reporting that the gelding was lame in its off side shoulder. Trainer Robert Keys was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to BANNER’S BOY racing again.
RACE 6 – KING ISLAND CLASS A HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
SEVEN SQUARED jumped out at the start inconveniencing I’MSINGINGTHEBLUES which had to be checked, EDDINGTON and ADDED BONUS were inconvenienced as a result.
ADDED BONUS (Sandy Mullett) was then slow to muster speed and tailed the field throughout. Sandy Mullett stated that after being inconvenienced at the start, the gelding failed to respond to her riding. Sandy Mullett further stated that the connections are evaluating the gelding’s immediate racing future.
Post-race swab samples were taken from SEVEN SQUARED, the winner of the event.
RACE 7 – BOOMERANG BY THE SEE CLASS B HANDICAP – 1600 METRES
The start of this event was delayed due to SUNSET REX becoming fractious in the barriers and breaking through the front of the barriers along with DEEP WELLS, both horses were restrained by their riders and returned to the barriers, YABUSAME also broke through the front of the barriers and dislodged the jockey. YABUSAME galloped free for a short distance before being recaptured. SUNSET REX, DEEP WELLS and YABUSAME were inspected by the veterinary surgeon and were passed fit to race.
The start was further delayed when MARKOV became cast in the barriers. MARKOV was then examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.
KENTUCKY KING was slow to begin (2L).
MARKOV (Tennille Gray) was slow to begin (3L), and then tailed the field throughout. Tennille Gray explained that in her opinion the reason for the poor performance was due to being cast in the barrier and the gelding stepping up 600 metres in distance. MARKOV underwent a post-race veterinary examination with the veterinary surgeon reporting that the gelding was lame in its near hind leg. Trainer Ron Crack was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to MARKOV racing again.
Post-race swab samples were taken from SERENGETI MISS, the winner of the event.
