You must select from the list below. There are some organizations where a maximum amount of hours is allowed. There are also some organizations where you have to be pre-approved to help. If you have an idea that is not on this list, you must present it to Mrs. Aguiar to see if it will be allowed. If you aren’t sure, ask questions before you complete the hours!

BRIEF SUMMARY ON ACTIVITIES

Avenue of Lights- Setting up, helping on the days of the event, and clean up. You would be taking out equipment and setting up individual stations, volunteering during the event anywhere needed, and clean up (tearing down all the lights and props and putting everything away.

Blood drives in community- Helping with any blood drives held in Orland.

Boy Scouts- Volunteer to put out and take down the flags that are displayed around town.

California State Fair Project- Help in designing a display that represents Glenn County.

CK Sports- Assist a coach at CK with any team sport.

FFA Activities- There are misc. events such as Splendor in the Valley Dinner, Republican Dinner, Artois Steak & Oyster Feed, Veteran’s Day BBQ, and Farm Day that you can volunteer your time.

Friday Night Live Mentoring- Students would be mentoring specifically referred middle school students.

Friendly Garden Club- Take care of plants and some landscape around the school and other locations.

Friends of the Glenn County Fair Annual Benefit Dinner- Help set up, serve, and clean up. This dinner is to help raise money for the fair programs and improvements.

Friends of the Orland Library- Students would be volunteering for any event or program that this organization may have throughout the year.

Glenn Chorale- Help in organizing any events they may have.

Glenn County Farmers Market- Help with any duties that the supervisor needs.

Glenn County Sheriff’s Posse- Volunteer for any events put on by the Sheriff’s Pose.

Glenn Gazette Articles- You would be writing articles for the newspaper.

Halloween Spook Train-Volunteer to help at the spook train at the Orland Fairgrounds, helping with the ticket sales and organization of all the kids.

Junior Trojan Wrestling- Help coaches and events put on by the Junior Wrestling Team.

Key Club- Volunteering for events such as the Potato Booth and Western Night.

Mill Street Parent Club- Child care for parent club meetings held at the Mill Street Cafeteria, also volunteering at the Mill Street Carnival.

OHS Athletic Booster- Help with any events that the Booster Club sponsors.

OHS Sports- Help any sports team that you do not participate in. You could be assisting as an equipment/team manager, taking stats, time keeping, etc.

Orland Art Center-Help with any daily jobs to keep the Art Center clean and ready for artist events, also volunteer for occasional night art shows.

Orland Craft Fair- Participate in plan lay out for fair; develop space set-up and misc. volunteering duties on the days of the event.

Orland Eagles Club- Volunteer for any events that are hosted by the Eagles Club. Volunteers are encouraged to attend meetings and observe membership.

Orland Fairgrounds- Students will see Doyle, fairgrounds foreman, to help with any maintenance and clean up.

Orland Little League Softball- Help coaches with any practices and games.

Orland Historical Camp- Help during camp, which is held over the summer. Camp is designed for kids ages 3rd grades through 6th. The kids play games, do field trips, and learn about Orland History.

Orland Library- Help clean, put books back on shelves, and help with activities.

Orland Little League- Help coaches with any practices and games.

Orland Otters Swim Team- Help with any events and or meets. Help with anything needed by Otter coaches.

Orland Pantry- Students can help with food pick-ups on Wednesdays between 3:00 and 5:00. They can also help with the annual Christmas Basket donation letters and the Simple Gesture Program which takes place every other month on Saturday mornings. The upcoming Simple Gesture Program dates are:

Orland Pride- This is an event that raises money for the Veteran’s Memorial.

Orland Recreation Department- Throughout the year there are various programs the students can sign up for, such as youth soccer, basketball, etc.

Orland Rotary- Events may come up throughout the school year that students can volunteer their time; such as the Toys for Tots drive.

Orland Volunteer Fire Department- Students can volunteer to wash the fire trucks, clean up around the fire department. A big event that needs volunteers is the February Spaghetti Feed.

Orland Women’s Improvement Club- The Improvement club puts on a rummage sale that needs volunteers to organize, move items, and clean-up.

Orland Youth Football- This will take volunteers to assist coach and to help out any existing coaches.

Orland Youth Football Cheerleading- Volunteers are needed to assist coach and to help with any cheerleading camps.

Resource Conservation District- The RCD organizes local volunteers who wish to dedicate their time in supporting conservation projects and programs that benefit Glenn County. Senior Nutrition Center- Students can volunteer daily at the Nutrition Center. Volunteers can help cook, clean, unload and serve food.

Summer School- Students must be pre-approved to tutor OUSD students.

SWAT- Students Working Against Tobacco is always looking for volunteers. Students can join the SWAT Team and participate in park clean-up, go to monthly meeting, etc.

Tau Alpha Sorority Bunco- There will be two Bunco events students can volunteer, serving soda and water, desserts, and clean-up.

TAY Center- The Center is a youth-run, youth friendly environment offering peer support, expressive arts, mentoring and counseling as well as other healthy activities. The Center hours are Monday through Friday, 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Town and Country Humane Society- The Humane Society is located at 4111 County Road 99W. The hours are Monday-Friday from 3:00-5:00 and Saturdays from 1:00-3:00. Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, socialized with both dogs and cats, clean cages and feed animals. To learn more, you can visit their website at

Town and County Humane Society Thrift Store- The thrift store is located at 502 Walker Street. The hours are Thursday 10-5; Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-3.

Town Band- Volunteers can help the band teacher with any events such as the Fourth of July Celebration.

Tutoring OUSD Students- Students must be pre-approved to tutor OUSD students.

Volunteer in Police Service (VIPs)- Volunteer at any event that the VIP’s are involved in.

Wreaths Across America- This is an event the uses volunteers to put wreaths on our Veteran’s grave.
