Mickey Fritz Memorial Fund
This fund has been started to honour the life and dedication of Mickey Fritz. Mickey was born on May 1st, 1953 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and sadly passed away on March 3rd, 2005 here in Kamloops.
Mickey began his minor hockey career in Kindersley before moving to Kamloops in 1968. It was then that he became a product and proud supporter of the Kamloops Minor Hockey Association. Throughout his years with KMHA, Mickey was an ambassador to the game and a successful coach at all levels. It was in the early to mid 1990’s that Mickey really found his gift for coaching. With his approach to the game of hockey and his ability to get every ounce of effort from his players, Mickey became one of KMHA’s most successful coaches.
From the years 1990 through 1994 Mickey guided the 1978 born players through four years of memorable experiences. Along the way, Mickey and his PeeWee Majors picked up a Provincial title in the 1991-1992 season. Never to be forgotten was an equally successful season in 1994 with the much remembered Bantam Jardine Blazers. One of Mickey’s coaching highlights and most memorable moments came in that season when he coached the Bantam Jardine Blazers to Kamloops’ first and only KIBIHT win.
Mickey was a knowledgeable and very passionate coach. He had the ability to make every situation fun and competitive for his players. He was a coach that demanded discipline and a never-quit attitude from all involved with his teams.
There are many players and hockey parents who will remember Mickey for his talent, passion and dedication to the sport of hockey. With this fund we wish to celebrate and remember Mickey’s accomplishments with KMHA, and hope that this further allows all players to pursue their dreams through organized sports.
With courage in your heart, you take a stand, a deep breath, and begin to design the life you wish to lead.
