Female Winner – Brianna Harrison–Brown – Collie SHS

Brianna is unable to be here to accept her award as she has already departed to attend the Magic Moments Youth Leadership Summit in Sydney.

Brianna is a Prefect and House Captain participating at her 3rd Country Week and active in all sporting events – and every other facet of school life including a peer support program to mentor younger students and the 2015 school Anzac Tour.

Brianna has represented Collie SHS at various Youth Leadership summits and sits on a number of boards in her community representing the youth of Collie and is a voice for the town’s youth on the ‘Re-imagining Collie – Future Visions’ board. She has been a presenter on Community radio in Collie since 2009 and is currently heavily involved in the establishment of an Australia-wide business project which aims to assist young people to establish positive family relationships which will in turn enable them to reach their full potential. Brianna is an energetic and passionate advocate for today’s youth in her school and larger community.

She is an outstanding role model and is a very worthy female 2016 Active Achiever Award winner.

Male Winner – Brett Turnbull – Northam SHS

Brett plays, umpires and coaches AFL at school and within the community. Demonstrating excellent leadership qualities, he is a great role model for younger students as he is always present and helpful at all school events.

He umpires at the Landmark Football Championships and is a runner for the Northam Storm Football team. He also plays cricket and is involved as a coach and participant in the Northam Volunteer Fire Brigade running team.

Brett’s passion is to contribute to his community through service as an active volunteer fire fighter with the Northam Fire and Rescue Service. He also trains the local junior brigade and is a judge at their state championships.

Brett has a crew leader qualification and was deployed with a strike team to the Waroona/Yarloop fires earlier this year. Due to his high level qualification he was assigned a leadership role where he was required to make decisions which kept his fire crew safe throughout their deployment and also to act to save a home and animals in the path of the oncoming fire.

Brett has brought his fire fighting team to his school to address students on Wheatbelt safe driving issues and readily shares, with groups, his experiences of attending road trauma scenes where he implores everyone to not drive tired, speed, text or drink when driving.

Congratulations Brett you are a worthy male winner of the Active Achiever Awards for 2016
