Team Ground Rules and Guidelines

What are the general expectations for all members of the team?

Everyone should contribute to the discussions, allowing for a free exchange of ideas while learning from each other’s experiences. Everyone on the team will put a substantial amount of effort into their parts of the assignments, and each team member must treat the Learning Team assignment like an individual assignment on which they wish to earn top marks.

It is expected that all team members meet deadlines set forth by the team for each assignment. The team is expected to communicate on a consistent, respectful basis and work off of each other’s strengths to produce quality work. Each team member has a responsibility to the other members to run written submissions through the University of Phoenix Plagiarism Checker and to ensure his or her work is properly cited and referenced, with working links to sources obtained from the Internet.

It is expected that the team works together. If one member is lacking in work quality, or has put in extraordinary team effort, the team should not hesitate to help or commend one another. Additionally, each team member will abide by the requirements and statements of this Learning Team Charter in our interactions with each other.

Expectations for Time Management and Involvement

(Participation, communication with the team, accessibility, etc.)

All team members should communicate with team members regarding assignments and check in with the at least once a day, reading all messages and replying to questions or concerns within 24 hours. If a teammate is struggling with his or her part, it should be known sooner than later so team members can help out. If an emergency arises, the affected team member should reach out to the others during his or her available times listed above to get help.

The team should all agree to come together at the beginning of the week (no later than Wednesday of each week) to determine which role each team member will take in completing the assignments. The team will also agree on the date and time the individual submissions are due. The work should be distributed equally among the group and rotated from week to week.

Ensuring Fair and Even Contribution and Collaboration

What strategy will you use to ensure that all team members are contributing and collaborating appropriately? Describe the communication strategy you will use if a team member is not contributing and collaborating effectively. How will the team manage conflicts between team members?

At the beginning of the week, the team will determine which objective is to be done by whom. Rotating the tasks for the assignments throughout this course should help ensure that each team member contributes an equal amount of work. This will also help us to develop our weaknesses. Communication must be open and honest. If a team member doesn’t think he or she can complete his or her part on time (struggling with the material, major life crisis), then that should be communicated to the team immediately to allow enough time to get the assignment done. If conflict does develop, the team must make every effort to resolve the issue in an adult manner. A minimum of 2 attempts will be made to contact a team member when work has not been submitted or a team member has not checked in. The remaining team members will then decide on how to maintain the schedule. If the team cannot resolve the conflict, we will contact the facilitator for direction. If the decision is to exclude an individual from the finished team project, the team leader will inform the facilitator of the agreed upon actions.

Special Considerations

What do you, as a team, agree will make this team experience different from past team experiences?

This team is a team of professionals who want to achieve higher learning. The team will have strong personalities and views on certain aspects. We can use these different views as a way of learning from each other’s experiences.

The Learning Team Charter is provided as a tool to encourage effective team collaboration. Please refer back to the Learning Team Charter as you complete each of the Learning Team assignments for your class. June 2010
