We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Student Support Assistant, to support students with a range of different learning needs, who are passionate about a future career in Engineering. The successful candidate will work closely alongside the Assistant Vice Principal (Personal Development, Behaviour & Welfare) and the SENDCo to ensure students meet theireducational aims. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an aspirational individual to gain first-hand experience in all aspects of student support. For the right candidate, there is anopportunity to subsequently gain qualified teacher status and to progress into a teaching post.

UTC Warrington opened in September 2016 and is on its journey to become an Outstanding Academy by our first inspection in Year 3. We aim to provide create an outstanding academic and technical institution, with support from our employer and university partners, to achieve the following objectives:

Job Purpose: /
  • To support teaching & learning in a safe and healthy environment with a commitment to raising progress and attainment.
  • To enhance students learning by challenging barriers to achievement both inside college context and through work experience.
  • To deliver tailored academic and pastoral care, guidance and support with the aim of maximising achievement and opportunities to achieve for all students.
  • To provide informed, impartial advice and guidance relating to Careers and Employability.
  • To be part of the college pastoral support team.
  • To act as an ambassador for the college in all matters.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: /
  • To offer 1:1 support during students timetabled lessons.
  • To plan and deliver small group intervention for a range of SEND needs.
  • To work in a variety of ways to support, inspire and challenge students to raise levels of achievement.
  • To establish good, positive relationships with individual students to encourage confidence, independence and a pragmatic approach to their learning.
  • To support and deliver aspects of the enrichment programme to ensure students achieve a good balance of experiences.
  • To support students with work experience and work placements, supporting the development of work skills and practices, monitoring and reporting on their progress.
  • To foster and encourage links between the home and the college to support students’ development within the college and wider community.
  • To engage in a personalised Continuous Professional Development programme to develop your own skills.
