WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN COMPETITION

Are you a student athlete? Are you interested in having a chance to win a trip to the Heisman Memorial Trophy Weekend in New York? All student athletes in grades 9 – 12 with solid academic grades who are also involved with community service activities are encouraged to sign up and represent Wakefield High School in the competition. UNC MOREHEAD CAIN SCHOLARSHIP

The award provides scholarship and other experiences during 4-year undergraduate study at UNC Chapel Hill. Criteria include: leadership, moral force of character, physical vigor, and academic scholarship.

WINSTON-SALEM UNIVERSITY VISITATION DAY

The University visitation on Saturday, October 16th, is open to all high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with at least a 2.0 GPA. Parents are welcome to attend; however chaperones will be accompanying students. Go to www.raleighwakewssu.org for more information.

AES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP

Seniors planning to attend a two or four year institution are encouraged to apply. Applicants are not required to take engineering courses to be eligible. Student must submit a 1000 word essay. Go to http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm for more information. / $500 / October 8

DANFORTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Washington University will name new recipients to the program. Criteria include high ideals, integrity, selflessness, and commitment to community, dedication to academic excellence and leadership. HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION

This association will recognize students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character and financial need. Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA and plan to attend either a 2-year or 4-year school. Application available at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships.

NORTH CAROLINA TEACHING FELLOWS PROGRAM

State-funded program designed to attract and retain talented individuals to the teaching profession. Recipients must agree to teach in a N.C. public school system for four years. Recipients participate in teacher training activities within individual campus programs in additional to regular university-related teacher training courses. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR SCHOLARS PROGRAM

EB KENNEDY SCHOLARSHIP

WHS will nominate candidates to apply for this award to study at Erskine College in South Carolina. Criteria for selection are Christian commitment, leadership potential, scholastic achievement, and vigorous outlook. OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL

GEORGIA TECH – PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP

Georgia Tech will select 110 entering freshmen for the fall who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and exemplary academic performance and have promise of continuing such performance in college and beyond. NUESTRA JUVENTUD – OUR YOUTH

COCA-COLA SCHOLARS FOUNDATION

Coca-Cola merit-based scholarships are based on character, personal merit and commitment demonstrated through leadership, extracurricular activities, academic achievement and motivation to serve and succeed. SUNTRUST SCHOLARSHIP SWEEPSTAKES

Seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for their first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school. Only one entry per person for each drawing, however students can register after each drawing for the next scheduled drawing. OUTSTANDING STUDENTS OF AMERICA
