Voting for new Community Chairs!

The Voting Members of the Community have nominated several community members to serve as chairs of the Community for the next three years. Steve Capar and I are very pleased to announce that three very strong “Co-Chair teams” have agreed to run for the office of Co-Chairs of the Chemical Contaminants and Residues in Food Community. Each team has submitted a short statement about their qualifications and goals for the future of the Community. (See attachments)

Voting Process

A call for applicants for the position of Community Chair was made at the 2010 Annual Meeting. No applicants were received. In February, 2011, the Community’s Voting Members were asked to make nominations. Multiple nominations were made. The three teams listed above have agreed to run for the office and have submitted information about themselves and their vision for the Community. The new chairs will be chosen by blind vote of the current Community leaders and Voting Members. The current chairs, sub-group chairs and the voting members will each submit a vote for their chosen candidates by blind ballot. Votes will be submitted to Secretary Alaa Kamal for counting. Candidates may vote for themselves, if they choose. The chosen candidates will be notified first and then the AOAC Board of Directors will be asked to approve their appointment. The new Co-chairs will take office at the beginning of the September 2011 AOAC Annual Meeting. Voting will take place the first two weeks of June.

How can you voice your opinion?

If you would like to endorse particular candidates, send your comments to one of the current chairs, sub-group chairs or voting members. Or send comments to Jo Marie at , and I will share them with the entire group. SEND ALL COMMENTS BY May 31, 2011.

Who are the Voting Members of the Community?

Chairs, Subgroup Chairs and Voting Members review recommendations brought to the Community by the Subgroups or other Stakeholder groups and vote for Community approval. Requests to establish another subgroup, proposals to collaborate methods or submissions of validation protocols for publication might be submitted for approval by the Community. These submissions will be announced on the Community website and will be made available for review to any interested members of the Community. We do not currently have any submissions for Community approval but there are several methods being considered for collaboration by Community members at this time. If Community members have any concerns about proposals brought before the Community, they should discuss their concerns with these representatives.

Voting Members are recommended to the Chairs by the Subgroup Chairs. The Chairs choose a group of Voting Members who will represent the various stakeholder groups within the Community. As an example, if the subgroup chairs represent U.S. government agencies, the voting members might be chosen because they represent different counties or industry. For that reason, not all recommendations will necessarily be approved by the Chairs because there needs to be a balance of representation.

The following Community members have agreed to serve as voting members from September 2010 – 2012.
