Hazards Present

Back strain and /or slip / fall injuries caused by improper use of the leg muscles while pushing lawn mower
Contusion and / or laceration injury to personnel struck by flying debris.
Do not operate the lawn mower with personnel in the work area.
Cut / laceration, pinch.
Back strain, slip fall and / or laceration injury caused by improper body position and muscle exertion while pulling the engine's starter cord.
Do not place hands or feet in blade housing when mower is running.
Do not start on the grass.
Do not stand on chute side of the lawn mower while pulling the engine's starter cord.
Back strain, slip / fall, and or laceration injury caused by improper use of leg muscles while pushing the lawn mower.
Never pull the lawn mower backwards; always push it forward while performing the grass cutting operation.
Never push and / or pull a lawn mower up and down slopes; always push the lawn mower along a slope while performing the grass cutting operation.
Keep hands and feet away from the lawn mower's housing while the engine is running.
Immediately stop the lawn mower's engine with the engine control handle if an immobile object is struck while performing the grass cutting operation or if mower becomes unbalanced and tips over.
Back strain and / or slip / fall.
Never repair and / or clean gas engine grounds equipment without disconnecting the spark plug.
Avoid contact with hot engine parts while operating and cleaning the lawn mower.

Safe Work Procedure

1 / Check the mechanical condition of the lawn mower.
2 / Grasp the lawn mowers handle with both hands push it to the work area using the leg muscles.
3 / Inspect the work area for debris that could --interfere with the cutting operation.
4 / Connect bagging attahments before starting engine.
5 / Clear personnel from work area.
6 / Start the lawn mower's engine.
7 / Place the engine throttle control hand in the start position.
8 / Do not allow the lawn mower to roll over the right foot while pulling the engine's starter cord.
9 / Grasp the engine's starter cord with the right hand
10 / Support the lawn mower unit by placing the left foot on top of the mower housing.
11 / Grasp the lawn mower's handle with both hands and push the mower using the leg muscles to perform the grass cutting operation.
12 / Regulate the lawn mower's engine speed with the engine throttle control handle.
13 / Stop the lawn mower's engine by placing the engine's throttle control handle in the stop position.
14 / Push the lawn mower to the storage area using the leg muscle.
15 / Clean once engine is cooled.
