Is there a role for lower cost simpler technology tram systems? Why are more tram systems being built in France, Spain and North America, even in relatively small cities, while in the UK more systems are cancelled than are built? Can we obtain the economic and environmental benefits that cities across the world are enjoying? In a time of austerity we are all attempting to 'do more for less' Merseytravel has been working to develop the existing Wirral Heritage Tramway into BOTH an attractive tourist enterprise for Merseyside AND a way of connecting the public transport network with the planned £4.5bn Wirral Waters development.
