Speranza Scappucci

Conductor

Italian born conductor Speranza Scappucci is considered one of the most interesting conductors of her generation on the international scene. Highlights of her 2016-17 season included a successful Vienna debut acclaimed by public and critics with LA TRAVIATA at the Wiener Staatsoper, stepping in last minute to conduct the opening of the Wiener Opernball 2017 with the Wiener Staatsoper Orchestra, and being appointed the Principal Conductor at Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège beginning in the fall of 2017.

Equally at home in symphonic repertoire, Scappucci has conducted the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra Toscanini in Parma, Netherlands Radio Orchestra, Orchestra Teatro Lirico Cagliari, and Julliard Orchestra, as well as the Stabat Maters of Rossini with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Pergolesi with the Orchestra Regionale della Toscana and Gala Concert appearances at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Tivoli Festival in Copenhagen, and Theatre des Champs- Élysée in Paris.

Recent and upcoming operatic performances include LA TRAVIATA, LA CENERENTOLA, and DON PASQUALE at the Vienna State Opera; NORMA at Latvian National Opera in Riga; LA FILLE DU REGIMENT at Opernhaus Zürich; a debut with IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at the Canadian Opera in Toronto; a new production of COSÌ FAN TUTTE at the Opera di Roma; IL TURCO IN ITALIA at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro; a concert performances of LA SONNAMBULA at Lincoln Center in a MET Lindemann/Juilliard School production; LA BOHEME at the Los Angeles Opera; LA CENERENTOLA at the Washington Opera and Teatro Regio Torino; a new production of LA FILLE DU REGIMENT at Santa Fé Opera; DON GIOVANNI at Finnish National Opera; NORMA at Teatro Sao Carlos Lisbon; LA TRAVIATAat the Macerata Opera Festival 2014; and Rossini´s L´EQUICOVO STRAVAGANTE in her Spanish debut at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao.

In November 2013 her first CD album was released on Warner Classics, Mozart arias with Latvian star soprano Marina Rebeka and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and in 2016 a CD album for Opus Arte with Albanian tenor SaimirPirgu and the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Speranza Scappucci, a brilliant pianist, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome. She has worked as repetiteur/Assistant Conductor in several prestigious international houses: the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera New York, Chicago Lyric Opera, Teatro dell´Opera di Roma, Salzburg Festival, Salzburg Whitsun Festival, the Glyndebourne Festival, Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera and New York City Opera.
