January 4, 2012 Meeting

The meeting was held at the clubhouse on January 4 at 8 PM. Thank you to the 20 members who made the meeting.

A.SECRETARY’S REPORT. Minutes of the December 7, 2011 meeting was read and accepted.

B.TREASURER’S REPORT. Report for the month of December 2011 was read and accepted.

C.OLD BUSINESS

  1. Mail Box. The theft of the mail box was discussed. A motion was made and accepted to file reports with the police and Post Office covering the theft of the box and any contents. Mark Gentile will file the reports. We will determine a location for the new mail box and send abutters a letter concerning the matter before it is installed within the public right-of-way known as Trailside Road.

D.NEW BUSINESS.

  1. GOAL and Outdoor Message relationship was discussed. Bob Pepi explained that GOAL (a non-profit corporation) does not own the Outdoor Message (a for-profit, privately owned company) monthly publication and pays them about $80,000.00 per year, about 1/3 of GOAL’s entire operating budget, for use of the publication to notify GOAL members of activities. The GOAL board of directors is considering any potential conflict of interest in their continued relationship with the Outdoor Message and is considering termination of the relationship and publishing their own newsletter.
  2. GOAL Membership. After discussion, a motion was made and accepted to write GOAL a letter explaining that Westwood Gun Club will not continue its membership until GOAL terminates its use of the Outdoor Massage and finds a better way to have a cost effective newsletter.
  3. Outdoor Message. After a discussion of our use of the Outdoor Message to publish a record of our monthly meeting minutes, at a cost of about $100.00 per month, it was decided that this was no longer necessary. A motion was made and accepted to terminate our use of the Outdoor Message. Our monthly minutes and other items of interest are available on our Club website and posted at the club house. Copies can also be distributed on request.
  4. Storage trailer for clays. A storage trailer for clays and other items was discussed. It was determined that a 40 foot refurbished trailer costing about $5,000.00 would be our best choice. It would be installed near the existing trailer. A motion was made and accepted to purchase the trailer and install it.

E.GOVENOR’s REPORT. Governor gave a general report of the past month.

  1. Requests that spent brass and steel shells be picked up and recycled as necessary.
  2. He is to approve new target installations.
  3. Pay attention to Range Rules and safety concerns.
  4. Know your target and pay attention to direction of fire.
  5. Wear eye and ear protection.
