GRADING POLICY
Assignments are weighted according to their importance and calculated on a percentage scale as follows:
60% Written Work
30% Homework / Classwork
10% Participation
- All major assignments will be graded according to a rubric.
- Students should come to class on time, with necessary tools (journal, writing paper, pen).
- Extra credit may be offered, infrequently and on a class-wide basis only.
Policies Affecting Grading:
All assignments are due on the date specified at the beginning of the class period. Late homework is NOT accepted. 25% will be deducted for each day for major assignments or projects that are late.
For example: An assignment is due Monday…
If it is handed in on Tuesday: maximum grade 75
If it is handed in on Wednesday: maximum grade 50
If it is handed in on Thursday: maximum grade 25
If it is handed in on Friday: maximum grade 0
All written assignments must be typed, unless otherwise directed. If work is turned in handwritten, it will be returned without a grade and be considered late.
Absences:
When a student is absent, she is responsible for missed work. When a student is absent on a due date, the work is due the day she returns. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in any work due or obtain any work assigned during an absence on the day he returns.
Students who cut class will automatically receive a grade of 0 on the missed exams or any assignments due that day.
Plagiarism:
All work assigned in Creative Writing is expected to be completed by students individually, unless specific written instructions for a group project have been distributed.
Submitting work done by others as your own, allowing others to submit your work as theirs or plagiarizing from an outside source (including internet) will result in a zero. All students received and signed a copy of the plagiarism policy freshman year—it is still in effect!
General Rules:
- Check my webpage for the monthly syllabus, updates to homework assignments, and other important class information
- All work must be typed (unless otherwise instructed)
- Treat everyone with respect, in class and in your writing. Treat everyone’s creative work with respect, as you would like them to treat yours.
