Minutes of the Special Called Meeting

I. OPENING COMMENTS

Welcome by Tom Crump. Bette Parks called roll. (Can only discuss items on the agenda at Special Called Meetings.)

II. READING AND APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Following distribution and review Tom Crump recommended Council accept the May 21, 2013 Agenda as written. Lisa Blevins made the motion to accept. Donna Bentley seconded the motion. Council reached consensus to accept the Agenda as written.

III.  ANNOUNCEMENTS

Closing Day is Wednesday, May 22.

The GCHS Graduation will be on Friday, May 24.

Mr. Crump stated that staff will be at the school by 8:00 a.m. for closing day. Staff will work in rooms, eat, attend meeting, and work in rooms again.

IV. READING AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Tom Crump recommended that the Minutes of the April 23, 2013 regular meeting be approved as written. Lisa Blevins made the motion. Donna Bentley seconded it. Consensus was reached to approve the minutes as written.

V. BUDGET/ACTION ITEMS

Budgets:

Tom Crump related that Title 1 is closed out; SBDM will roll over approximately $7,000. to $8,000 and not all field trip bills are paid from the activity account yet.

VII. COMMITTEE/PROGRAM REPORTS

Community Relations - Component Manager, Janie Barney

Curriculum - Component Manager, Clare Nemeth

School Culture - Component Manager, Lisa Blevins/Beth Spencer

Donna Bentley reported that the Writing Program Review was completed today. The Arts and Humanities review isn’t finished yet. Stacey Spears will share the program reviews at our June meeting.

VIII. OLD BUSINESS

Members discussed the 5th Grade Progression Ceremony at Greenbo State Park Lodge. Lisa Blevins said the students’ behavior was exemplary. Meredith Hall asked about grandparents who aren’t guardians becoming PTO officers. Members stated that they believe anyone who joins PTO can run for office. Felicia Burnham will check to see if this has changed. Meredith also commented that she would like to start an Argillite Face book page for news if it didn’t become a griping place, as this would be a way to reach more parents. Following reflection Tom Crump suggested she go ahead and try it. Lisa Blevins made the motion and Clare Nemeth seconded it.

IX. NEW BUSINESS

Announcement of Parent SBDM Council members for the 2013 – 2014 school year and PTO Officers for the 3013 – 2014 school year.

Felicia Burnham relayed the news that the two SBDM Council parent representatives are once again: Felicia Burnham and Meredith Hall.

PTO officers are: President- Felicia Burnham, Vice President-Melissa Hall, Secretary-Tonya Billups, Treasurer-Kathy Christian.

Tom Crump mentioned that he would check with Matt Baker on representatives’ 3 hours of SBDM training. Bette Parks commented that it might be on PD 360 this year. Lisa Blevins responded that this is a quick and awesome way to get the training and it is also interesting.

X. ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be a working session at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. The CSIP, policies, and by laws will be reviewed and or revised. Stacey Spears will cover the Program Reviews.

XI. ADJOURNMENT

Felicia Burnham made the motion to adjourn. Clare Nemeth seconded the motion. Council reached consensus and the meeting was adjourned at 4:04 p.m.
