GRADING and EXPECTATIONS

Rehearsal Skills

·  For the orchestra to be its most successful, every student is expected to be responsible and respectful. At the end of each quarter, you and I will evaluate the level of responsibility and respect you have shown in class (see rubric). (50pts)

·  Marking music is a time saving rehearsal technique used by all professionals. After each concert, one piece of music will be collected and graded for completion of this important step in music making (see rubric). Regular marking music assumes you have your music and pencil at each rehearsal. (20pts)

Small Group Instruction (SGI)

·  You are expected to be at small group instruction during your scheduled time each lesson cycle, unless specified by teacher. (60pts--10/lesson)

·  If you miss a small group: you are expected to make it up. Unexcused absences can only receive 8/10 on make ups.

Concert Expectations

·  Excused absences are those due to illness or family emergency only (provide signed note from parent)

·  Attire is formal concert wear: BLACK (including black socks/shoes)

·  You will be evaluated on the level of respect you exhibit on and off stage. Being on time, helping with set up and tear down, respecting pre-concert procedures all contribute to a successful concert (see rubric). (35pts)

Additional assignments

·  Includes playing tests (15pts), concert reflections (10pts), listening journals (10-15pts), technique exercises (16pts), and other in-class assignments.

·  Instrument, music, Essential Elements (bk 3- gr 9/10; bk 4- gr 11/12), pencil, journal paper (notebook, loose-leaf...)
