JOB TITLE: / WEB APPLICATIONS DEVELOPER
GRADE: / Scale 23 - 30 (£23,541 - £28,922)
BROAD STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of web-based applications and services.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Head of IT Services

ACCOUNTABLE TO:

Assistant Principal – Finance & Resources

OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:

Staff and learners throughout College

Cross College Managers

External Agencies

Employers

Governors

MAIN ACTIVITIES:
  1. Develop, enhance, support and maintain the College intranet and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
  2. Develop, maintain and support web-based applications and interfaces for business use, including analysing and developing business requirements.
  3. Design and support Web Parts and modules for the College’s SharePoint implementation.
  4. Support and develop third party College applications.
  5. Develop, maintain and support custom applications to service College functions
  6. Investigating new technologies to provide innovative web services to the College community.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

1.  Comply with and promote College policies and procedures.

2.  Model good practice in equality, diversity, and safeguarding and attend training as required.

3.  Participate in performance management and review that considers qualitative and qualitative judgements on performance.

  1. Actively participate in staff development activities in consultation with line manager.
  2. Ensure duties are carried out within the College Health & Safety Policy.
  3. Contribute effectively in the operation of a quality support service.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Must be prepared to work at any of the College centres and travel between centres when necessary.

Must be prepared to work “off-site” if appropriate to the College business.

Prepared to work up to two evenings per week and possibly some time at weekends if required.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of web application architecture / Knowledge of the Compass suite of educational software products e.g. Pro-monitor / AP IN
Good working knowledge of the most common web application development languages e.g. ASP.net / AP IN
Evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development / AP IN
EXPERIENCE:
Proven working experience of application development / SharePoint development experience / AP IN
Experience of creating websites and interfaces in a combination of codes such as HTML, ASP.net, Javascript and be familiar with Visual Studio and/or Dreamweaver / Experience developing Apps for mobile devices / AP IN
Experience working in a widows/MSSQL environment / AP IN
Experience of working closely with IT staff either within an education establishment or a large business
SKILLS:
