Children in Need - Bake Off,

Students rolled up their sleeves and got out the oven gloves and mixing bowls ready for the annual ‘Children in Need Bake Off’. Ten pairs set about working on their culinary creations after school on Thursday 12thNovember, under the watchful eyes of guest judges, Rachel Barber from the Fourteas and Jason Brooke, Stratford School’s Head Chef.

Teams had 2 hours to bake and ice their Children in Need themed cakes with the final product being judged on presentation, taste and texture. It was a difficult decision but the winning team was Imogen Robberts and Saskia Hipwell. Their cake was chosen as it was excellently presented and had plenty of flavour. The duo won a voucher for afternoon tea at the Fourteas Tearoom. The school is very grateful to Rachel Barber for giving her time to judge as well as giving the students such a lovely prize.

The competition was exceptionally close this year, with only 5 points between first and last place. All the students taking part were commended on their calm attitude in the kitchen, even when things were going wrong. All the cakes that were baked were then sold off in the school canteen at lunch time to fundraise for Children in Need.

Charity Bike Ride in Memory of Lorna Robbins 11th July 2015

Ten staff members got on their bikes to raise funds in the memory of their colleague Lorna Robbins who sadly passed away earlier this year. The bike ride went from the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, London to Stratford-upon-Avon and was catalogued on the school’s twitter feed:@StraUponAvonSch over the Friday and Saturday.

The trip was over 128 miles and it took them 9 hours and 50 minutes ride time to complete, the team stayed together throughout. There were a few challenges on the way, interestingly more for their support vehicle than for the cyclists themselves. They returned to Stratford upon Avon School at approximately 7pm and were met by well-wishers who had been waiting for them to cross the finish line.

The team had hoped to raise £2000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research as a tribute to colleague Lorna Robbins who had been a well-loved and highly valued Teaching Assistant at the school for the past eight years and who is sadly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she had touched through her work at the school, as a brown owl or through her kind and generous personality. Wonderfully the team have actually beaten their target of £2000 and there is still time to donate to this worthy cause by visiting their Just Giving page :
