Literary Movement Poster – Due Friday at the very beginning of class

Now that you have completed some research on the American Literary Movements, now it is time to synthesize your ideas as a group. In teacher-selected groups, you will work together to create a poster that represents each literary movement. Each group is responsible for including the following information for each literary period:

·  Name of literary movement(s) and the years covering literary movement:

o  Puritanism and Rationalism (1600-1820)

o  Romanticism and Transcendentalism (1820-1865)

o  Realism (1865-1914)

o  Modernism and Harlem Renaissance (1914-1950)

·  Include a timeline including three significant events and three significant pieces of literature from this era

o  Include three significant historical events occurring during the period,

§  Significant events such as: inventions, disease, war, leaders, and/or technology

o  Include three significant pieces of literature from the period placed accordingly on a timeline

§  Search the Internet using “literary movement name” and the word “literature” to find literature titles or use the hyperlinks built into this document to see a timeline with literature titles

·  State the overall thoughts and concerns of the era in a written statement(s) on the poster

·  Using magazine provided in class or pictures you printed from the internet, decorate each literary movement with at least three symbols that capture the essence of each particular American literary movement

Once your group has written down a rough draft of ideas to include for each American literary movement, show it to Mrs. Conferti for approval. Once the information has been approved, Mrs. Conferti will give your group supplies to make a visually pleasing and accurate poster representing the literary movements.

Be sure to cooperate with your group. Stay on task (that means put your phone away)! Do your best work.
