Character Analysis Essay Procedure

1.  Study the prompts – Read over all three prompts. Decide which prompt you believe you would like to write to. Basically, you are choosing the prompt that sounds the most interesting to you.

2.  Find the Brainstorming Page for your prompt – In order to refresh your memory about what your prompt is asking of you, complete the brainstorming page of which prompt you selected.

3.  Thesis Creation – Review the sample thesis provided for your specific prompt. Then, using the information from your brainstorming page, craft your own thesis on the proper page. Be sure to follow all directions on how to create a proper thesis. Finally, have your thesis checked BEFORE we go to the writing lab.

4.  Review Outline for your Prompt – Find the page in your packet that shows a complete breakdown of what needs to be present in your chosen essay. Begin thinking about how you will meet these requirements.

5.  Begin Typing – Once in the lab, use your outline from above and your thesis statement to begin crafting your essay.

6.  Edit, Edit, Edit – Be sure to proofread your paper BEFORE asking a peer or adult to look over your paper. This can serve as your self-evaluation or just as a quick look over. Find a peer or adult to conference your paper. Be sure to make the proper corrections after reviewing your editor’s comments. Complete a final self-evulation.

7.  Submit and relax!

Additional Enrichment:

The prompts above are listed in order of difficulty. Prompt 1 being the most basic while Prompt 3 is the most advanced. However, if you would still like to add another layer of difficulty to this assignment, you may want to consider the following.

·  While writing to any of the prompts above, try using minor characters from the story (characters not present in the Character Packet). This will pose as an additional challenge since there is not much information about our minor chractetrs and you will need to analyze and infer much more deeply than you would with the main characters.
