UND-SWE Freshman Scholarship
The University of North Dakota Student Section of the Society of Women Engineers (UND-SWE) is honored to have the opportunity to present The UND-SWE Freshman Scholarship to current female, freshman, engineering students. Note that you do not have to be a nationally registered SWE member in order to qualify for awards.
The UND-SWE Freshman Scholarship is made available from the interest of an endowment established by the UND-SWE Student Section in 1987. This scholarship is awarded to a promising female freshman engineering student. The selection is based on the student’s GPA, participation in activities, enthusiasm and dedication toward engineering, demonstrated during the fall semester.
UND-SWE Joyce Medalen Award
The UND-SWE Joyce Medalen Award is an endowed award to honor Joyce Medalen’s unselfish contributions of time and effort, her insistence on excellence, and her conscientious professional and personal counseling as the founding counselor of UND-SWE. The UND-SWE Joyce Medalen Awards are presented annually at the Spring Recognition and Award banquet each spring semester. The awards are given to UND-SWE members in good standing, based upon that member’s participation and outstanding personal contribution to the objectives of the UND-SWE student section. Three awards will be given, with one award reserved for a new member (someone who has joined UND-SWE during this past academic year). Note that you do have to be a national member in good standing in order to qualify for this award.
UND-SWE A. Irene Fletcher Award
Dr. Alan G. Fletcher established the A. Irene Fletcher Award in May 1991 in honor of his wife and to recognize engineering students for outstanding outreach contributions to the UND School of Engineering & Mines. The intent of the award is to recognize engineering students who have worked with dedication and commitment to encourage elementary and secondary school students to make sound academic and career decisions. This encouragement includes providing information on the challenges and opportunities of the engineering profession. The award recognizes individual student member accomplishments in outreach activities on both an organizational and a personal basis. This award may not begiven every year. Note that you do not have to be a national member for this award but it is highly encouraged.
