TECOM Introduces KuStream™ 1000 Antenna System
Thousand Oaks, CA (January 30, 2009) - TECOM Industries, Inc., a Smiths Interconnect business, today announced the newest addition to its SATCOM product line: “KuStream™ 1000”. The KuStream 1000 is a broadband antenna system designed to provide passengers with broadband in-flight connectivity - supporting applications such as VoIP, movies, Internet (via the World Wide Web), e-Mail, and other in-flight entertainment (IFE) services. KuStream 1000 is a collaboration between TECOM Industries and QEST (a Dräxlmaier Company), and is offered exclusively through TECOM Industries.
The KuStream is comprised of three line replaceable units (LRUs): a fuselage mounted Satellite Antenna Assembly (SAA) consisting of a highly efficient array that is mounted on a two (2) axis low profile positioner; an advanced microprocessor-based Antenna Control Unit (ACU); and a state-of-the-art High Power Transceiver (HPT) unit. The unit operates in the frequency band of 11.7 – 12.75 GHz for receive, and 14-14.5 GHz for transmit.
In recent weeks, TECOM has successfully conducted satellite over-the-air trials that demonstrated system capabilities such as web browsing and general Internet usage over a commercial satellite service. Preliminary data taken indicates the antenna can support 4 MB/sec data rate up and 2 MB/sec down in communications with a Ku band satellite.
