The purpose of this job is to ensure that the Northern Heartlands partnership is well administered and that the Staff and Board are well supported. There will be a book keeping role to ensure that the funds of the partnership are accounted for by arrangement with and with the support of, the Finance Manager of Visit County Durham, the grant holder and the Heritage Lottery Fund, the grant giver.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Administration serving the workings of the NHP office.
  2. Supporting the work of the NHP staff.
  3. Undertaking book keeping for the NHP accounts under the guidance of the Visit County Durham ('responsible body' for the NHP grant) Finance Manager.
  4. Minuting meetings of the NHP Advisory Board.
  5. Organising logistics for events, meetings and travel.

General (These responsibilities are applicable to all posts)

Person Specification

Criteria
Education and Qualifications /
  • To 'A' level plus an accredited, globally recognized, book-keeping qualification in accounting

Experience /
  • Five years of experience in administration.
  • Experience of managing an office or area of work.
  • Five years of book keeping experience with a solid understanding of grant project funding requirements (Heritage LotteryFund or similar).
  • Experience of providing timely and efficient board administration including minute taking at meetings.
  • Experience of working in the arts or community work an advantage.

Skills/Abilities /
  • Organisational skills, including the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Good computer skills including spread sheets.
  • Event logistics skills
  • A helpful and supportive approach.
  • Reliable and able to deliver as agreed.
  • A self starter, able to act on own initiative and remain self- motivated to achieve high standards.
  • Good team player able to support colleagues and contribute to common goals and flex as needed.

Other Requirements /
  • Ability to support occasional events out of normal office hours.

Terms

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week, but requests for reduced hours and flexible working will be considered.

This is a fixed term contract ending on the 31st March 2020

The salary is £25,000 per annum, a pension contribution will be paid by the employer

  • Communications facilitator (freelance)

The Boundaries

A map of the Northern Heartlands operating area in West County Durham is attached. The office base will be in Barnard Castle or environs.
