Conference Period: 7th period: 1:04-1:49pm
Materials Needed:
· Student Laptop (you will need to bring it everyday)
· binder or folder
· notebook or loose leaf paper (you will need this for class on Monday and every day afterward)
· 2-line scientific calculator (calculators will not be supplied)
· pens and pencils
Grading: Below is the breakdown of how grades will be recorded. You can expect at least TWO exams per six weeks, so each exam is worth 20% of your six weeks average.
Major 40%
Minor 50%
Reading/Writing Assignments 10%
Total 100%
Make Up Work: A student has one day to complete missed assignments for every day they were absent. In the event you have to miss class, check online for make-up work. It is your responsibility to access your missed assignments and turn it in within the allotted time.
Late Work:
Days Late / Percent of GradeReceived by Student / Example(s)
1 Day / 80% / 100 records as 80 (100 x 0.80)
80 records as 64 (80 x 0.80)
60 records as 48 (60 x 0.80)
2 Days / 60% / 100 records as 60 (100 x 0.60)
80 records as 48 (80 x 0.60)
60 records as 36 (60 x 0.60)
3 or more Days / 50% / 100 records as 50 (100 x 0.50)
80 records as 40 (80 x 0.50)
60 records as 30 (60 x .50)
Average Amount of Homework: You will need to plan on having homework. I will post the work and it will be due at the beginning of class the next day. Some homework may require viewing a short video and answering questions, or completing 3-5 problems over the current material. Studying for upcoming tests and final exam will require out-of-class study time since class time will not be provided for reviewing. You should plan on spending 30-45 minutes on homework each day.
Reading Materials: Our textbook, Physics; Principles and Problems, McGraw Hill, will be available online, as well as Edgenuity. Additional reading may be required and will be available online.
Tutorials: School tutorials are held every Wednesday and Thursday from 2:45-3:45. I will also be available for help almost every day before school from 6:30-7:00 am. Please talk to me if you would like to schedule a time to work one on one. This is a valuable time to come and make up missing work and receive additional help, so please take advantage of it.
Honor Code: It is assumed that you will follow the honor code at all times. Cheating, plagiarism, and other academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.
Labs: We will be doing a variety of labs in this class. Safety is of utmost importance in the laboratory, and for this reason you will be expected to wear goggles during lab unless I specifically state otherwise. Failure to wear goggles during an entire lab will result in removal from the lab and either a text book makeup assignment or a grade of 0.
Units of Study: The following units will be covered this year, days are approximated and may be adjusted to student learning:
FIRST SEMESTER
1st Six Weeks
· Physics Skills and basic Processes- 5 days
· Kinematics in One-Dimension and Graphing Motion- 20 days
2nd Six Weeks
· Newton’s Laws of Motion- 14 days
· Two Dimensional Motion- 7 days
· Universal Gravitation- 4 days
3rd Six Weeks
· Conservation of Energy- 15 days
· Conservation of Momentum- 10 days
SECOND SEMESTER
4th Six Weeks
· Mechanical Waves: Properties and Applications- 8 days
· Electromagnetic Waves- 10 days
· Electrostatics: Forces Fields and Energy- 6 days
5th Six Weeks
· Current Electricity- 15 days
· Magnetic Fields and Electromagnetism- 16 days
6th Six Weeks
· Physics is Everywhere- 10 days

Final Words: As Albert Einstein stated “The important thing is not to stop questioning.” Don’t panic! If you do your homework, work hard in class, and study; you should have no problems with Physics. It’s fun!
