Community Research Institute - Graduate Assistant Programmer

-  Full-time graduate assistantship for Spring-Sumer 2017 and/or the academic year 2017-2018.

-  $4,000 stipend + tuition reimbursement for up to 9 credits per semester.

-  We will give priority to students that meet one or more of these requirements:

o  Strong background in software development & experience with SOLID principles (object-oriented programming & design) in Java.

o  Experience managing high volume data for research purposes in transactional databases.

o  Strong background in database design & development (preferably PL/SQL).

Position Description

The Graduate Assistant Programmer will:

·  Participate in the development of dynamic, data and media-rich web sites. And, full cycle of software development, including requirements specification and documentation.

·  Assist with database design and development using Oracle 11g and PostgreSQL.

·  Work closely with data owners and subject matter experts to understand source data, and how best to represent it within the database.

·  Create or modify the ETL pipeline to process and load data from different sources.

·  Interact with CRI technology and research staff to develop and implement user interfaces and data visualization techniques for various data sets and research findings.

Qualifications

·  High proficiency in SQL and database development. Basic knowledge of database design.

·  Proficiency in JAVA/JSP. Strong knowledge of other programming languages will be considered.

·  Proficiency in HTML, HTML5. Familiarity with CSS.

·  Proficiency in Javascript. Familiarity with jQuery and AJAX.

·  Familiarity with Eclipse IDE and GitHub.

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·  Good self-management and ability to work independently with supervision.

·  Ability to plan and organize the work load in order to meet deadlines.

·  High level of self-initiative and willingness to learn.

·  Experience with technical documentation and user manuals, and/or knowledge of diagraming software such as VISIO is a plus but not a requirement.

Orientation/Supervision

Training and supervision are provided on an ongoing basis. CRI takes its responsibility for the development of students seriously; we are always willing to participate in any GA Supervisor orientations and each semester we will conduct a review meeting covering the student’s work, skill development, interests, and mentoring needs.
