SCHOOL : St Monicas, Kangaroo Flat

This Project consists ofthree sessionswith 6-8 YEAR 6 STUDENTS.

  • The first session, from 9.30-11.00 on Thursday, August 24th will be hosted at the:

CFA Hargreaves St. Bendigo

  • The second session from 9.30-11.00 on Thursday, August 31st will be hosted at the:

Bendigo Police Station High St. Bendigo

  • Thethird session from 9.30 – 11.00on Thursday, September 7thwill be hosted at the:

SES Victoria, Marong, 32 Cathcart Street, Marong

Important things to remember

You will need to:

  • Wear your uniform with full covered in shoes (no toes or top of foot to be exposed)
  • Tie back long hair back
  • Wear your safety vests.
  • Bring and wear a name tag – your first name only
  • Bring a pen and your Project Book
  • Listen to all instructions and follow the directions given
  • Bring a small snack to eat, at the end of each session

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions is part of team work. I hope you are excited to see what you can discover about how the Emergency Services work together to keep you safe. At the end of each session we will think about what we have learnt

Session one : CFA Bendigo

CFA Thursday,August 24th from 9.30-11.00

You will be greeted by your host CFA Officer – Tim /Hugh

Introduction

Introduction and Induction to the site

What is the role of the CFA?

How does it work with the Police & the SES ?

What career paths exist in the CFA; what education background do you need? Might this be a career path for me to think about?

Demonstrations

Observe the hydraulic platform in operation also known as the aerial platform

Observe a fire truck arriving/leaving

You will watch hose pumping and experience the holding of a fire hose; feel the pressure of the water!

Experience the breathing apparatus used in a fire

Experience the protective clothing that the fire fighters have to wear. Did you realise how much ‘heat protection’ is required for a person’s safety?

You may hear a simulated fire calland see how the officers respond

Thank your hostif time, a hot chocolate, and small snack (from home)

Sessiontwo : Bendigo Police

Police station, August 31st from 9.30 – 11.00

What are all the roles within Victoria Police ?

What career paths exist & what education background do you need? Might this be a career path for me to think about?

Demonstrations

Road Safety - investigate how thehighway patrol car works; how does radar work and why do Police use radar

Experience wearing ‘beer goggles’; how alcohol and drugs affect our ability to behave and operate safely

You may observe dialling triple 0: 000

You may be asked to help solve an incident police are notified of; can you help solve the incident? How would Police Officers respond?

How do the Police work with the CFA and SES?

Next week you are going on a Forensic Investigation with the SES; how would the Police work with the SES?

You will be given a CSI Activity Book; time for a hot chocolate and a small snack (from home)

Session three : SES Marong

SES, Marong, September 7th from 9.30-11.00,

You will be greeted by your host SES Team Leader, Robin

Introduction and Induction

What is the role of the SES?

What career paths exist in the SES; what education background do you need? Might this be a career path for me to think about?

Demonstrations

You will be working in a team, with SES volunteers to find clues to solve a crime

The crime scene is in the grounds of the church, near the SES headquarters

You will be given directions about what the crime is and what clues may be helpful. What skills were required?

At the end of the search, back to SES headquarters for a hot chocolate and a small snack (from home)

How does the SES work with the Police and CFA in a Forensic Search?

Would the SES be in charge of this search if it was a real search?
